Noelie 103
Unless a miracle happens on Friday, full marks must go to our wheeler-dealer Joke Kinnear for reaching the heights once again by bringing aboard one solitary loan player. Let no one cast aspersions that our Director of Football is not one hell on wheels when it comes to ................... oh fuck!!
Dr Gloom 22186
And let's not forget the performance we've just put on post Cabaye. We can't realistically compete with Chelsea, Man city, Man U or Arsenal. Then there's Liverpool and Spurs and all they've done to be 5th or 6thThe fact that some folk think we can compete with 5th to 8th without sticking to our business plan is pure stupidity. It's like the kid whose mam can afford to take him to Butlins whining cos the rich neighbours going to Florida. Howmanheyman 33916
I judge kinnear from the present back to his first press conference as our manager. I judge Mike Ashley on not just hiring him but re-hiring him. Kinnear is just a stooge, despite Pardew 'fankin' Mike on numerous occasions he knows arse licking will get him nowhere. There just isn't a will to make it happen from him, is there even a plan for him to take his money back or is he just letting his advertising vehicle run on and on with no intervention and no interest unless it's critical? aimaad22 4222
No doubt Grenier's agent holding out for a bigger move, but its easy to gauge from those comments that the way we've gone on about this bid has offended the player . Not surprising at all considering the way we do 'business' and the fact we have Kinnear in the scene.
aimaad22 4222
By the by, the business model we used to pick up Cabaye and Tiote and that crowd appears to have been abandoned this season. If we had stuck to it, we'd have signed someone. That business model could definitely have had us fighting for 8th last season if we'd applied it in the summer instead of the winter window and, given our position now, an application of that model would have us fighting for 5th-8th. We're only 6 points off 5th with a better goal difference. I know it's fun to take an opposing view to the consensus, but arguing that we should be content with getting by, just confirms my opinion that you're more of a "Football as a pastime" kind of guy. Spot on. Wonder what the mood is like in the dressing room these and how many of the players are thinking about what their future in the summer. Christmas Tree 4852
Some right tosh gets talked about players transfers. Players are mostly influenced by money more than a shot of winning the league cup. Do we honestly think Cabaye left a double winning team to come to us for a league cup? Or Debuchy, Sisokko, etc Of course not. They come for the filthy lucre. And as long as we keep offering it they will continue to come.
Tom 14013
It's nothing to do with 'competing with the top 4' It might be better to see us 'actually try' or 'give a shit'. www.transfermarkt.co.uk/en/premier-league/transferbilanz/wettbewerb_GB1.html
ChezGiven 0
Sounds like the agent has persuaded the player not to sign in this instance. As a replacement for Cabaye, the move is actually risky for the agent since if he fails to adapt to the premiership then his value is dented. We were also probably offering around 50k a week if not less. In the summer, he can command an even higher wage as the buying club will not be spending as much on the transfer and agents are normally paid a fee based on the salary across the contract. He has a better chance of going to the world cup playing in a team where he is on form and comfortable, rather than coming to England and struggling to make an impact in his first 10 to 15 games. There is no risk on that front playing for Lyon in Ligue 1. Kind of makes sense.

We'll have less of this common sense type posting thank you very much Surprised any player expecting to go to the World Cup will happily move this January (unless it's like Cabaye and a move to the sort of loaded club he'd hope to attract after the WC, so no need to wait). Maybe we are where we are because of the likes of the quality we've brought in in the last 12 months? Sisokko, Anita, Gouffran, Debuchy, Haidara, Remy, De Jong etc I call that trying. Just because Sunderland have brought more bodies in it doesn't make them better. Same goes for every other team BELOW us.
Tom 14013
It's a red herring though isn't it? We're 8th happily out of bother & happily away from the Europa league. Out of both cups, happy days. It's a complete fucking waste of time. They knew Cabaye was going, had months to replace him and didn't. How many times are we faced with the ''we've tried''. ''Clubs don't do their business in January'' ''If we keep the TV money we wont have to sell'', ''I wont allow anyone to leave in january'' ''We couldn't get this over the line'' et cetera et fucking cetera, Why not sign his replacement on January 1st? They're fucking conmen plain and simple. Money talks - clearly - and we're on fucking mute this season.

The part that particularly stands out was "Is Clement really worth half of Yohan Cabaye?", which is a reference to what we offered Lyon. I also thought he over used Cabayes name, four times is quite a lot!
