What's Currently Wrong With You

Wife is in HR and certainly in her roles the pay issues land on their desks because of a fuck up in finance, but they're the face of it. I know she hates having to be the middle man between a justifiably pissed off employee and a department who've got the agility and alacrity of an NCP Car Park.

She gets most enjoyment from supporting people on a career path, but much and more of her day-to-day is sorting out horseshit disputes involving finance, sex-pests, jobsworths, karens and entitled kids.

A lot of the training courses they lay on fall flat with 90% of the staff, because they're set in their ways or don't yet see the value. But things like emotional intelligence, diversity awareness do matter. I know that my manager and team have benefited from training courses on awareness of mental health issues in the workplace because I can hear the buzzwords, or recognise the approaches.

Good HR staff can make a huge difference in your work life balance, your career path and your confidence in the company.

It sucks that this has been your experience.

It's not mine though, every time I've needed HR they've had my back. Even when I've had issues with pay they've done their best to get it resolved as quick as possible.

Company man Dave.

I calls it likes I sees it.

Plus my wife would straight up murder me if I spoke ill of her profession.

Most HR professionals (and I have met and worked with many who are sound as a pound) couldn’t tell you what the fuck they actually do without slipping into ridiculous bureaucratic jargon

  • 3 weeks later...

Badly fucked my knee playing football just over a week ago. Twisted and felt a pop on my planted leg whilst kicking. Partial tear of MCL and highly likely that I've snapped my ACL. Waiting on results from my MRI.

Aye. 💯 this. In fact I’ve been privy to some conversations from the head of HR for my previous company and she was the devil incarnated. Couldn’t give one fuck about the staff but a two faced cunt when in front of them.

They are there to protect the company more than care about the staff.

Edit: just a bit of context on what she is like. My mate who was there for 10 years and worked his arse off for endless hours and was a key part in keeping the company functional was having mental issues during covid (living by himself in a top floor flat and really struggling). He had to take time off which was signed by his doctor. Anyway her response: “I don’t think he is telling the truth, shall we sack him?”

Turns out he had a mental breakdown.

I left shortly after that.

Dunno if it's the weather or whatever but I can feel the first jangles of a wave of anxiety/depression. Struggling to focus, have a jittery energy, kind of catastrophising everything, pushing back deadlines etc. So basically, if I a moody cunt over the next week/month, I fucking warned you.

Weather this weekend has sucked massive cock.  Last night having tea I said to Wor Lass that it felt like winter and was a bit meh.

I’ve got a mate who has a farm not far from Catania in Sicily and it was 46c there yesterday. That’s the official recorded temperature in the shade btw. I suppose what we’re having is better  but this July has been absolutely shite

To update, yes it's a torn ACL 😫

Will have to have an operation to graft in a new ACL.

Hey @OTF, have you been referred to a specialist yet?

If not and you are doing it through private coverage, try to see Dr David Wood, he's part of the surgery that is famous for doing most Aust sports players.

Based out of North Sydney. If you go through the public system it's a fair old wait.

Booked in to see Dr Peter Lorentzos who is the head Dr for the Tigers. Don't know if that is a good or bad thing. He was recommended by my physio.

Don’t worry. You will still be in a better state than Gemmill. I known what I am speaking about.

ACL replacements are pretty common these days, nothing to worry about.

You have to wonder how good he is because the Tigers are crap for a reason!

BTW I coached Brooksy as a footballer up until he was 13 and the Tigers said no more. He could have made it as championship level footballer except for the "thinking" aspect of the sport.

You'll be fine and back to playing O35 in a season or so. Took about 18 months before I could hit a ball like pre ACL replacement but then again that was 20 years ago, so you'll probably be bionic like Gemmill after this - just make sure you don't tick the chinese mouse option!

Cheers mate, scraping the bottom of the barrel to be blaming the head Dr for how poor the Tigers are though! Hope he turns out to be all good, as Isegrim and others have said ACL replacements are common with extremely high success rates. Didn’t take out the meniscus at the same time which is good.

Lads, I know you are DESPERATE for my attention, but I don't know why you're raising my name in reference to torn ACLs.

Good luck with it OTF. You'll be back on the dancefloor strutting it to Men At Work before you know it.
