I am getting on a bit now and just want to make sure everything is ok. But because I am not old enough, or don't have any family history I cannot get one by my GP. I cannot seem to find somewhere private to get one too! I got one on the nhs. It was available on demand via a GP appointment. Took 2-3 weeks to get results. Gemmill 51099
Just tell them you've recently discovered that there's a family history and make something up about an uncle or something.
Renton 24186
As said, the issue won't be the cost of the test, but the cost of the implications of a positive test which in your age group will very probably be a FP and the costs/stress this will cause. But if you push for it by stressing your symptoms your GP should agree. I am meaning to ask for one myself tbh.

RobinRobin 12653
2 hours ago, Renton said: First, have you been properly diagnosed by the doctor? If you've had the more serious causes ruled out, you've probably got benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) and/or overactive bladder syndrome (OAB), or possibly a hybrid of these. As Gemmill says, you can take an alpha blocker for the former. For OAB, I've worked on beta-3 agonist for this issue recently called vibegron. This or a similar drug called mirabegron are both effective for the condition. I tend to wake up once, around 5am, but I'm in the habit of drinking a pint of water before sleep because otherwise I feel dehydrated. But my bladder capacity is not what it once was. More a problem during the day tbh when I'm facing situations I can't get to the toilet. Then I just piss into a bottle and spray piss everywhere. Oh wait, no, that's MF, not me. Yes, diagnosed with BPH and recent ultrasound showed enlarged prostate. Done the blood test a couple of times. All good there. Was prescribed Duodart a couple of years ago. Includes Tamsulosin and I had a similar reaction to Gemmill. Ended up in hospital after passing out watching TV. Still think that was at fault. Recently had Silodosin which didn't cause me to pass out but had no obvious benefit. May have to consider something more invasive. 🙁😷
Gemmill 51099
Hope you get sorted. I've been on antobiotics for most of the first 3 months of this year, off them as of last week and hoping stuff is sorted. It isn't completely, I already know, but he's explained that it's one of those things where something goes wrong and then your brain decides it needs to send pain signals and shit. In which case it can become a chronic thing. If this doesn't work, it'll be a referral to the urologist but we'll see.

OAB is a weird mix of the physiological and the psychological, because its caused by afferent neurones in the bladder (a bit technical, I know). Basically its a sensory problem though. One of the things you get is "key in door syndrome". That's when you feel okay walking back from the pub, but the nearer you get home you have a huge urge to unload. By the time your key is in the door, you've pissed yourself. Experienced this a few times. Not pissed myself, but once had the ridiculous spectacle of pissing in the plant pot next to the door for the sake of 30 seconds, hoping the neighbours didn't see. @RobinRobin, you may have tried, but there are lifestyle changes you can make and bladder training exercises etc also. Work for OAB, probably not so good for BPH mind.

If I can sleep for 5 hours without getting up, I can live with that, but if I wake up after a couple of hours I'm up every hour after that. Go straight back to sleep, but it can't be good for me. Certainly experienced that syndrome but at other times I can go for hours in the pub without needing a piss. Clearly both physical and mental - generationally fucked. RobElliott 1867 Posted Monday at 17:55 Share Posted Monday at 17:55 (edited) Feeling incredibly shit for the past few months with tiredness, runny nose and brain fog, occasional pins and needles and thirstier than usual. Thought it was a side effect of the medication for the tinnitus / omeprazole for the GERD but came off them and no better, also thought it was a side effect of 3 young bairns . I have one that is up at 5:30 every morning, comes into our room then I cant get back to sleep. My gut is that its possibly Type 2 diabetes so going to ring the GP tomorrow if I can get an appointment. Brother had pre-diabetes just before his heart attack 10 years ago (genetic, im in the clear on that front!) Have had a full blood count done in the last few weeks with the GERD, thyroid and all clear. Wife has told me to man up and do more exercise Edited Monday at 17:56 by RobElliott

Aye, its crossed my mind too, i don't recall having anything flu like but the only time i did test positive 3 years ago i just had overwhelming fatigue for about a week with very little in the way of fever. For a few months after Id just be floored with fatigue / high temp for 2-3 hours then fine again , ended up missing my gran passing over it. Aye Id usually be grand with walking 5 miles and take nothing out of me, i was done after just over 1 mile today. If I cant get a doc appt tomorrow I might just buy one of those randox general health kits as I can claim back from work and discounted as well.
