Not too sure where I stand on this. I don't like the idea of my children being able to watch the porn I watch but I don't want my ability to access what I want to change. Hmmm

I honestly think porn is a net negative for society (not just kids) but so is everything fun.

So it really comes down to how much of a Libertardian you are.

Why can't you use parental controls? Why are they being dismissed? My perception is that the root cause of our problem here is that some parents aren't using them.

I'm very libertardian :D

Why is porn a net negative for society in your view?

I'm very much a libertardian at heart, too.

I could talk for a long time about why I think porn is a net-negative, but I'll try to keep it short.

It sets unrealistic expectations; it promotes an often unhealthy view of sex; it's addictive; it potentially lessens the need to procreate (not that I give two shites about that personally).

I recently gave up porn and feel much better for it, in spite of it being completely fucking awesome, obviously.

Because kids get round them very easily?

And the prevailing wisdom is that the kids smart enough to 'get around' parental controls won't be able to bypass this nonsense? I get what you're saying, but this is coming from a government that is also now advocating for cracking down on 'extremist' thought on the internet, and has already banned, pointlessly, the depiction of certain sexual activities between consenting adults.

This whole policy is a shambles IMO. I'm genuinely going to be fascinated to see if they're going to kick 2 million kids off Tumblr and probably more from Reddit, when this goes through.

Aye, as they will this.  And probably a lot more easily than their parents.

I don't (believe it or not) watch porn all that often myself. I'm just repulsed by the idea of the government interfering in people's lives under the guise of 'save the children'.

If it lessens the need to procreate, it's a net positive IMO, though.

Just to confirm, I think this is a totally shit idea as well.

Aye, fair enough.

I totally agree as it happens but I think we're the odd ones out in this scenario.

Agree with @Kevin Carr's Gloves too as I think anyone who thinks about it for a few minutes will.  Unless they're already running down the street screaming "won't somebody please think of the children".

Agree with Adios but also the general consensus that this is pointless (as are most forms of control and prohibition around what people consider to be fun, pleasurable, exciting, etc). On a more positive note this has all the hallmarks of the moralising of the failing John Major government.

Her crimes against the internet continue. The one last year came alongside some muzzer scaremongering, a spike in terrorism followed. Brexit and a nanny state and still getting more votes than labour. What needs to happen?

The problem is, I could actually see Labour doing something similar to this - their ideological position would be broadly in line with it if you took 'protecting children' and replaced/appended it with 'protecting women'.

We need to kill off ideologies - why we can't just have a rational decision making apparatus with a fact based approach to policy is absolutely beyond me.

That's encouraging if moralising is the reason this is happening, but May certainly appears to be more generally cracking down on the internet...

If labour want to continue enthusing the young then they need to address the war on drugs as well. The era of gratifying old cunts with the current bullshit will die before long

When a man is tired of porn he's tired of life. ;)
