Was at a wedding in the Loire Valley in France, near to Tours(ish). Food was excellent, wine was cheap and top class, the local cider was superb. And I got to spend time looking at views like this

Now I'm back in fucking grey London at a fucking grey desk doing fucking grey work.

This is going to be very, very weird if it turns out to be the same place, but is that Chateau de Clerbice?

Nope, that's apparently about 160 mile south west of where I was (Château de l'Isle Savary)

i know how you feel. i'm just back after a month off. starting to question my own existence. is it all worth it? should i contemplate resigning, selling my house and buying a gite in dordogne

One of the lads runs his own coffee shop in Yorkshire (Less Full English, more Smashed avocado and chorizo on sourdough bread kind of place) and spent 1/2 the week seeing potential in dilapidated old pump houses and barns; thinking he could turn the thing into an amazing Wedding venue with just a bit of investment and hard work.

Nice dream, but that part of France is so sleepy, such a pain in the arse to get to, best to keep it as a dream.

Currently having a socially acceptable 10am pint at the airport before heading off for a few much needed days in the sun.

Where you off to? I'd avoid Syria at the moment.

Partway through the Lakes/Arran/Northumberland trip. Weather's been grand so far - typing this while getting a baldy heed tan on the deck of the Arran ferry. :D Driving's been fine but I did forego the challenge of the Hardknott Pass and co. (not driving into red deer on Arran has been enough of a challenge). This country is pretty brilliant, at least when you have good luck with accommodation, food/drink and the weather

And not running over wildlife.

I've been all over Europe, Thailand, I've been all over the shop but this Loch Lomond is the most beautiful place I've ever been. Genuinely staggering. I can even cope with the Hungarian and Polish waiters in the hotel it's that nice. Sad to be coming back tomorrow. Mad thing is, had more sun in four days than I've had all summer and we're in September.
