Russia is not a military threat. This war was supposed to be won in 6 months and we’re 3 years in. Russia has a population more than three times that of Ukraine and they still rely on reinforcements from South Korea.

It's a military threat because its a nuclear power

Not sure what you can do about that other than have a deterrent, which we have.

As far as conventional forces go, hard to disagree with KCG given the abysmal performance on the attack on Ukraine. Also Russia is poorer than every large Western European nation. We should be able to easily step up tbh. Stop buying US weapons and get back to making our own.

Russia wouldn't have struggled anywhere near as much if Ukraine hadn't had US support, which is what we are facing now. They also have the military "advantage" of not giving a fuck how many of their troops die

Economically they are still selling all their oil to India/China, and again don't gave to worry about their electorate

Hopefully Europe can unite. Frightening times though

Probably, but would it stop them invading a neighbouring country like Poland, Finland or one of the Baltic states if they think they can gain something? Even without the nuclear threat Russia is still able to start damaging wars. Simply relying on them being weaker than previously thought isn’t a sensible preparation.

“Planning“

Yeah, that's fair enough. Although I wonder how far even Putin can push his citizens. A million dead or injured already, brain drain, getting pennies for his oil as India and China have huge leverage. I don't think he will try it on with a NATO country even without the US.

Next few months and how Europe deals with the threat of  Trump absolutely vital. Need to minimise any reliance on the US
