Yeah, I need to post some screenshots of Sarah Kendzior tweets. That's how you fight fascism.

Well yeah, she’s predicted a Trump election win twice now, I can see why you’d have issues with her

I can make a change though, I can get different employment. Application forms being completed tonight. And anyway, I accept completely I can't change things in a wider way. Who here has ever said they can? But there's nothing in that AA maxim that says remain ignorant about your situation, in fact, that's almost the opposite of what they mean. Stay aware and mindful of the situation you find yourself in is pretty key with alcoholism.

Anyway, I am entirely aware that toontastic is mainly a place for shits and giggles as the World burns, so I'll leave it there.

How is you changing jobs going to make any difference though? I completely de-activated my Twitter account after the Musk nazi salute and that will make an incredibly tiny difference to the situation but I don't see how what you're doing will make any difference at all?

Because it will protect me personally against whatever mad shit move Trump does next? And if I were completely unaware of the extent of the madness of his presidency, which some people on here frankly appear to be, then I couldn't proactively react in this way. I too have deactivated twitter. Musk won't care, it will have almost no affect on him at all. But I do, and that's what matters there.

Your issues with her centre on you trying not to shout her name when you're on the vinegars, you dirty old "moved in for a closer look" KERNT.

Talking about this stuff with like minded people is, for me at least, important. It reminds me that for all my frustrations and fears about the world, I'm not alone. As someone with an anxious disposition I do often feel better just running things past you guys. Like for instance I posted the other day about Trump and Starmer, and KCG made a counter point and I felt better. Sometimes of course things are as bad as I think they are, and no one has anything reassuring to say, but at least we're all in it together.

I do try to avoid being constantly in politics chat these days but I think dabbling is ok for the sake of sanity. If we don't do that, then speaking for myself at least, I feel even more powerless and isolated in the storm.

EDIT - I'm gonna add as well that I also appreciate (and I think Renton knows/values this too :D) that Gemmill's suggestion here is an attempt at kindness and care because he can see the anxiety in what is being said. Sometimes switching it all off is indeed the right thing.

Yeah, well said. I know Gemmill means well but I don't like being criticised for talking politics on a politics thread.

Back on topic, I salute people like Caroline Kennedy for doing the right thing. She eviscerates him here.

I mean I know not everybody works in healthcare and that maybe kids dying of infectious diseases in the US is not of interest to some of us, but the conspiracy bullshit this cunt peddles is fundamental to what we are witnessing now, even the UK, to a lesser extent. So it should be of interest.

deportations of non legal immigrants have always happened including under Obama.

why is it such a problem now?

Is the thinking that borders or at least rules around borders are outdated?

His government is demonising certain races to stir up hate. He is blaming the problems on illegal immigrants and politically weaponising this to gather support and fool the knuckle draggers into believing they are the problem, all while the rich get richer.

If you ask me, nation states are an increasingly redundant political consideration in a world that now lives online and without borders as much as it lives offline and with them.

As to your first point though, who is complaining about Trump deporting illegal immigrants in those specific terms? I read the other day that for all the fanfare he's making about it, he's doing very little different to what Biden was doing. So I think most of the noise on that is coming from Trump himself trying to stir the pot and get a reaction. If he just came out and said "I'm continuing with the immigration policies of the last administration" then it wouldn't be drawing anywhere near as much attention. But he doesn't do that, he makes it sound like he's the first person to ever have tackled this issue, and turns up the drama which the media then feast on.

I'm more concerned about the threats to invade Greenland and to generally weaken Western civilisation by ramping up hostilities between allied countries, eventually leading to a breakdown in international order and a power vacuum that gives opportunistic rogue states the ability to cause considerable harm.

All it will take is a mini pandemic with this lunatic in charge of health and there will be no maga idiots left. So on that basis I hope China have been diddling pangolins again.

It's been ramped up considerably, raids in schools, workplaces and churches. In Arizona they "arrested" 15 Navajo indians ffs as illegals!!

They're placing quotas on ICE agents, the round-ups will only intensify.

On the bright side it's 4 years until our next election, Trumpism will likely fuck up massively in that time so hopefully even the hard of thinking who would vote for reform will be "oh no fuck that" by then.

As the hugely impressive AOC says:

You see, this is the sort of compassion we need. Smack heads are a much maligned group, good to see someone sticking for skanky feckers.

A smackhead who only eats the finest organic unrefined food. Got to hand it to Welsh, the observational wisdom of the man came out even in his darkest characters.
