Gemmill 47458
Labour are resisting calls to block Musk from donating to Reform cos they think it'll play into Farage's hands. It might do, but you know what would play into Farage's hands more? A HUNDRED FUCKING MILLION DOLLARS FROM ELON MUSK. These people are too fucking timid to govern. Farage must be pissing himself. 1

What would the money be spent on? There's a cap of £55k spending on campaigning per constituency, which is £34 million in total. I'm not sure money plays as an important role in politics in the UK as it does in the states. Also think a stronger Farage will hurt the Tories more than Labour. But yes, if I were Starmer I'd make it illegal and close any loopholes.

We should be asking whether a foreign national who doesn't live or pay taxes in this country should be able to pump that much money into the political system. The obvious answer is no, and it should be stopped in that basis alone. But since you asked, Farage isn't exactly known for sticking to the rules, is he? And the election commission isn't exactly known for having the teeth to enforce them. Remember Brexit campaign spending? They broke all the rules there too, and once the vote had taken place, there was nothing anyone could do about it.
Renton 22622
Aye, fair enough, I do agree. I just look at Farage and think no way will that repulsive lying gimp get enough votes to be a real problem no matter how bank rolled he is. But then I was wrong about Trump so fuck knows. I hear he is gaining popularity with the kids which is profoundly depressing.

Toonpack 10542
That cunt threatens someone with litigation every five minutes and it never happens, because he'd lose, but the threatening to sue headlines are enough to make the hard of thinking believe he's telling the truth/been wronged.
Rayvin 5600
I came across a couple of interesting charts concerning the priorities of British people - this first one considers the ideologies that British people most associate themselves with. Which is IMO leaning towards being progressive. I am not seeing this 'small c conservative' trend in this data. Conservatism polls behind even Socialism here. This makes me think that the problem isn't that the country is right wing, it's that the country is confused, misinformed, and that individuals have personal insecurities which the right preys upon to manipulate them. I can't for the life of me see how to add an image to this post to actually share it but the link to the charts and data is here: https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/51086-which-political-ideologies-do-britons-have-a-positive-view-of The second interesting chart is how voters for particular political parties view each ideology. It's more or less what you'd expect (21% of conservatives oppose conservatism though) but does show the areas in which we've been particularly successful even on the right leaning parties. 35% of reform would self define as environmentalists. 30% as feminists. It's not a majority, but it's a significant minority. It just makes me think if we can get the messaging right, we can speak to people while addressing more of these concerns. The only thing this doesn't really tell us about is immigration which I reckon is distorting a lot of people into positions they might not otherwise take up. Would the 30% of reform voters who see themselves as feminists be in reform if immigration wasn't an issue?

Renton 22622
Happy New Year from Bernie. You need to watch this. Musk, Bezos and Zuckerberg have ore wealth than the bottom 50% of the US. Sick. Feels like things are gone already but we can't give up the fight. We just can't. Edited January 1 by Renton

Gemmill 47458
Because there's no fighting that I can do that could make a difference. I'll be watching Celebrity Gladiators and The Traitors, and letting the idiots get on with trashing the planet.
Gemmill 47458
I'm also trying to find a local co-op Xbox game that doesn't make my lass want to throw the controller through the window. All 3D games are out cos she can't get her fucking head around the controls.
Renton 22622
Probably need to go retro. Street Fighter 2 or something. Let her wrap her Chun Li walnut cracking thighs around your Blanka neck.

Not sure if they're on X Box mind but bloons is basically everywhere, think you can even get it through Netflix. See, I'm waaaaay ahead of you on the whole 'coping with our dystopian future by playing co-op games with the missus' front. 1

Rayvin 5600
@Gemmill Actually just dawned on me - you could try Civilisation 6. That can be played co-op, it's turn based so she won't need to be fast and can take her time, has some depth to it but can be played at quite a light level also. And the political system lets you choose fascism as a government type, so it's also educational as to the future of Western civilisation
Gemmill 47458
we tried Lego Star Wars before. Lasted 5 minutes. I'm running around shooting people and she's stood in the corner staring up at the ceiling going "I can't work out where I am!?" Basically anything where one control covers your movement and another covers your aspect, and she's completely fucked. Very similar experience earlier in the day playing Escape Academy which is a split screen escape room game. I'm solving all the puzzles and she's Blair Witching it in the corner. It's all she can manage to get out of the room once I've got the door open. Cheers for the recommendation but she wouldn't play Civilisation, she'd consider it for dweebs. Will check out Bloons though, ta.
