Dr Gloom 21911
Why still pay for a sky sub in this day and age? Genuine question. I presumed it was older tech-illiterate people keeping them afloat

I presumed it was older tech-illiterate people keeping them afloat I mean I'm probably in the older tech-illiterate camp, I can never get illegal streaming to work when I've tried it possibly due to my shitty broadband and hardware, and I've got to be especially careful not to do anything illegal due Mrs Rent's job. But with you being in the media, if what you say is true and people essentially esssentially don't pay for their content, what do you think the ultimate consequence of this will be? I mean I'm watching the Penguin on Now currently, paying £3 a month for the Entertainment package, and the content is as good as any A+ film. Somebody has paid a lot of money for that? I wasn’t just talking about illegal streaming tbh, though that’s part of the picture. Sky just seems such poor value compared to other streaming services such as Netflix or Disney. It must be the sports packages keeping them afloat but then that stuff is so easily accessed illegally for so many people, I don’t know how much longer that will remain the case. The other thing I couldn’t stand about sky when I subscribed was how they hike up your fee every six months, so even if you renegotiate a better price, it gradually goes up to what they want you to pay for it without consultation. We were talking about it in another thread recently but the only time I start paying for a Sky sub again is when they start to offer Newcastle games on demand instead of having to watch whatever match involving one of red cartel they decide we should be watching on “super Sunday”
Dr Gloom 21911
The answer to the other question is more ad revenue. The streaming market is so saturated now that providers are having to offer entry level budget packages, with ads. The result is streaming services wind up looking more like traditional linear TV and those with deeper pockets get the ad-free content. For the traditional satellite/cable providers, the future is less certain. They’re surviving thanks to the older demographic, which is diminishing. I don’t know what the future holds for them in a world of on-demand content unless they get much, much more creative with their offering or if there is a race to the bottom on prices. The on-demand premier league football rights idea that I floated could be one solution, given sports is one areas propping them up. I would happily pay a big subscription fee for a package that offered every Newcastle game on demand.
Renton 21561
The answer is communism. My gripe is there's usually only one or two series I want to see on TV per streaming service, and only NUFC matches split between Sky, EE, Amazon and BBC, ITV (cup games). I'd be happy to pay a considerable monthly subscription for all of these but instead have to keep constantly chopping and changing packages to keep things affordable.

Gemmill 44796
The only use a digital recorder has these days is advert avoidance on the terrestrial TV streaming services that insist that you pay them to remove ads. So ITV and C4 cos no one in their right mind is watching 5. Arguably no one in their right mind is watching ITV either. Howmanheyman 33099
I pay the licence fee and that's it. I always get a good offer for now TV's sky sports package which I take and my dad uses and gives me the money for it. I'd never buy it for myself, (my dad's never working out the fire stick), if it was just for me I'd never subscribe which is why I keep getting the deals as I cancel till I get the inevitable begging email. Holden McGroin 6580
TNT price is a farce. I’ve got virgin broadband with Sky Sports chucked in for £38 a month. i then have Netflix, Prime (mainly for deliveries) and NoW Tv entertainment (£2.99). I’ll also pay for a few months of Apple TV soon as there a lot of good stuff coming up . I get Disney free off the step-daughter. i ditched Sky Movies a while back as i never watched anything. Similar set up to me though mine's BT. Never got the fire stick to work (have tried several). Matches always lag, blur, go choppy, or just crash altogether. May be my broadband isn't up to it but I always thought it was the memory cache being inadequate in those things. I'm trying to get into gaming again now so will upgrade the broad band to 500 mbps and see if that helps. The broad band requirements of MS Flight Simulator 2024 are ridiculous.
