It's cos they're stuck in the dark ages. Law firms still insist on doing everything by letter, they'll send and ask for cheques too. They just don't want to spend any money on encryption/decryption software.

Business, government, everything runs on encrypted email now.

Aye, the NHS too.

And I've had another ballache trying to get a ticket to download for tonight's match again*. Bring back fucking paper tickets.

* Before Gemmill or someone else mocks me for being IT illiterate, the box office have confirmed its a problem on their side affecting everyone in my situation. Still took them 15 minutes to resolve whilst I was there.

Legal firm has say 200 employees and they all get hit by a phishing email. Someone is going to fall for it and then the whole system is compromised.

Now perhaps you can explain to me how to hack an analogue phone line sending a data signal and then how to translate the data signal into something usable? :)

Bank has 6,000 employees. Civil Service has however many thousand employees.

The same applies in every industry. People get trained on responding to phishing emails, and the businesses invest in systems that have safeguards. It's not like legal firms aren't on email either. Or don't have electronic copies of confidential information.

I guarantee this is about an unwillingness to invest in infrastructure, and an ability to dictate the terms on which they do business, much more than it is about security.

Given how few people own a fax these days, and the fact the technology is going to be phased out, they must be doing lots of interaction by email anyway.

The chancellor says the single bus fare cap applied to many routes in England will be raised from £2 to £3 - as first revealed by Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday - extending it for a further year until December 2025.

The cap was introduced under the previous Conservative government and was due to expire at the end of December.

You’re absolutely right that the legal profession have modern office IT systems and have had for many years but you still won’t accept that security is the reason some things are sent by fax after a detailed explanation as to why. I think we need to invent a new word for those such as yourself, but I personally am terming this sort of wilful ignorance “reverse Luddite-ism” :D

Only if all 200 people have the same access rights and the email server is shit a spam protection and they find someone stupid enough.

I would imagine as soon as the leadership election is over he'll be packing it in and they'll be fucking off to the US as was suggested they'd do if he'd lost his seat.

Just look for the cunts who reply all with “this email is not for me” and “will people stop selecting reply all” and sending reply all.

I told my Mrs I am not judging this government for 3 years, therefore the budget may be good, or may not be good, but I’m reserving judgement.

I get personally offended when people don't understand this simple concept.

Some half-decent ideas but no real impact on the rich and some nasty punch downs ( bus cap,  disability work assessment and no move on 2 child UC cap).

A few years ago I was at BP HQ, one morning the email service was brought down by thick “reply all” cunts (it’s not limited to the UK).

My place isn't big enough to cause that kind of carnage tbf. I'd be on board with it if it literally put a stop to all emails for a while.

Best of it was as different parts of the world woke up, it all started again, some cunt had sent the original mail to several global group address lists. Carnage when the yanks woke up at lunchtime for us.

Once it all settled down an edict was sent from god to the world “do not reply all” we pissed ourselves because some twat in outer-god knows where replied “Sorry, I won’t do that again” and (drumroll) replied all.

One of my mates (well, a mate of a mate really) accidentally forwarded a rude joke to the entire trust (probably in excess of 10,000 inboxes). Cause major IT issues and substantial offence. He was disciplined and demoted, was a bit of a miracle he wasn't sacked but then the trust were short on pharmacists at the time. He was a funny lad as it happened. Would definitely be dismissed in these days of heightened sensitivites.

The increase in employer national insurance contributions is bad news for a lot of ordinary businesses. Could lead to lots of job losses

They were saying that small businesses don’t pay employers NI, they also get some sort of NI credit, not sure at what level it starts at though…

I think it looks a strong budget for repairing and rebuilding the NHS, schools and housing. Most of the ‘tax’ rises have been kept away from the lowest paid - bus cost aside.

And if it is fully funded, as opposed to the nonsense Tory budgets, it has to be a good thing!

There's plenty businesses not even paying their employees a living wage, and now they're all moaning about the minimum wage and employer NI going up. And talking about how they'll have to freeze worker pay or fire people.

There'll be honest, small business owners affected negatively by this, and that's genuinely a shame, but there'll also be plenty thriving businesses that can afford to make a bit less profit to pay the people that are making them a thriving business fairly.

The money to sort the mess that the country has become has to come from somewhere. Of course if we could have an honest conversation about why we're in this fucking mess, that would also be nice, but of course we can't. Yet. Maybe ever.

The one that gets me is “there will be no/smaller pay rises due to this budget”

what fucking pay rises? Everyone in the country has had 12 odd years of real terms pay cuts, if they have managed to wangle a pay rise from their employer
