Apparently he got £500 last year which he gave to a fuel poverty charity because he thought it was immoral to keep it. The man earns comfortably £40k a year working part time and his wife is full time employed still. He owns his own home which is paid off. Why in fuck would he ever need winter fuel allowance? I appreciate he's not typical by a long stretch of everyone but ffs. It was largely just to appeal to a selfish, old, Tory cunt demographic. Earlier this year the income for households with pensioners overtook that of working families and they’re still fucking banging on like they’ve been robbed. Those close to the threshold who will struggle are obvious exceptions to this. They should’ve been getting more instead of rolling out to everyone based purely on age. Almost 5 years until the next GE man, who cares about polls at the moment? Getting things in order now will lead to improvements in the 5 year timeframe, in theory, in time for the next GE. I do agree with most your post but not about Farage. There is absolutely no way he will ever be PM. The higher he climbs, the more scrutiny he is under, and his beliefs on the NHS come to the fore as well as everything else, like him being a Putin stooge. He would horrify half the tory voting base. I get the point. But if they appoint the option that has the best opportunity to keep the Tories out of power, they'll soon replace them. Only a matter of time before some upcoming centrist comes along who makes them electable. Give them someone from the old guard that'll keep them in the wilderness due to their associations with the previous government, but who's not likely to do anything earth shattering.
