I now have a smart electric meter AND a smart gas meter that can't transmit a signal. Kid Dynamite 6816 Posted July 5 Share Posted July 5 I know this election wasn't as simple as 15% of the Conservative vote going to Reform and handing Labour the win without them really making any gains... but what this data does suggest is Labour might have a much tougher job on their hands next time round if (and it's a big if) the right somehow find a way to unite. What it really shows is an electoral system not fit for purpose. Although that won’t change in the next 5 years because of the size of the majority and because of the time it would take. By the latter i mean parliamentary time and the thousands of civil service man hours it would take. Especially with all the other priorities. However, the only long term way to stop the right is to get a Green/LibDem/Independent/Labour alliance. If Labour sit on their hands and do nothing for the next 5 years, and you re-run last night's election with a Unite the Right party that could attract all of the votes from both lunatic Reform people AND moderate Tories in the home counties, then yes, Labour would be in trouble. Basically.. Can we just wait and see what happens. What happens at the next election will depend on many variables, but the biggest of all will be how well the government delivers, and we're on day 0 at the minute and trying to work out what happens 5 years from now. Saw something which suggested Starmer had chased marginal swing voters while not being too bothered by losing core voters which I think is true and a large part of the story combined with the collapse of the tories and reform actually standing. Imy concern as I've said before is that he'll have to try and keep those voters on board which will mean more immigration talk and other bollocks because he isn't going to do anything to boost the so called core vote. I'd also point out that the tory + reform votes actually exceeded labour's total so they'll need to rely on a split vote continuing going forward.
