Renton 21360
UK officially in recession. How's that growth pledge going Sunak? I've made the point before, but GDP is not the relevant indicator here, GDP per capita is (or should be). That's how the economy impacts on people. If you look at that, apparently we were in recession throughout the entirety of Sunak's tenure. Edited February 15 by Renton

ewerk 30293
This is quite the take. We're in a recession but not really because other countries have different rules and it's all the junior doctors' fault.

We're in a recession but not really because other countries have different rules and it's all the junior doctors' fault. The BBC are repeatedly referring to it as a "technical recession". What does that mean? It's just a fucking recession, full stop. The BBC were also at paind to point out GDP is a lagging indicator, and we might not be in recession right now! As you say, quite the take. We imported over half a million people ;ast year, mainly workers, and yet our GDP still decreased. That is a huge problem. Edit, James O'Brien just gave the figure of change in GDP per capita since just before covid: UK -1.1% US +6.0% EU +2.7% The response from tories will be but Germany. Think it's true that Germany is doing quite badly right now. This is partly due to Ukraine, and partly because their energy policy is nuts and they have embraced austerity which is also nuts. But before we celebrate, consider that Germany is coming from a much higher base than us. Germany GDP per capita: $53,945 UK GDP per capita: $46,428 I also suspect they don't have the same inequalities as us. It's actually somewhat surprisingly only the 6th recession in modern histroy. 5/6 have come under tory governments. Remind me why people think they are good with the economy again? As well, at least in the old tory days you got a boom before bust. Now it's just 14 years of bust. 1973: -1.3%, Tory government 1980: -3%, Tory government 1990: -1.6% Tory government 2008: -2% Labour government 2020: -22.5% Tory government 2024: -0.4% Tory government
Alex 34863
It’s about conning enough floating voters into thinking they are better off. They’re good at it and the press are largely on side and fptp facilitates it too. AKA our broken democratic system
Gemmill 44414
It's fucking mental how the press have gone for Starmer over the Rochdale candidate thing over the past couple of days. Compare that to the non-reporting of some of the absolute fiddlers that the Tories have had as MPs who have triggered most of these by elections anyway. Labour are held to an entirely different standard by a lot of the press and the Tories just allowed to skate on loads of stuff. Gemmill 44414
As expected, Labour gains in both by-elections. Wellingborough in particular was a massacre. As bad a week Starmer has had, Sunak has managed to top him.
Gemmill 44414
Tory vote share has collapsed from 62% to 24% in Wellingborough, the biggest collapse in their vote share since WW2. Looking forward to them telling us how there's "no great love for Keir Starmer" as if losing that badly whilst no one likes Starmer is actually a good thing.
Alex 34863
Helen Harrison, the Tory party candidate in Wellingborough (who also intends to stand at the general election), is Peter Bone’s partner Who the fuck thought that was a good idea?
Gemmill 44414
Apparently Bone was threatening to stand as an independent and campaign against the Tories if they didn't make her the candidate. So they bottled it and still gave up the second biggest Labour swing ever. I just love watching Sunak suffer. Hoping for plenty of that today and over the weekend.

According to Mogg, Kingsbury was a bad day for Labour as they didn't get 50%. I can't wait to see this cunt walk the distance.

There in his capacity as a GB news presenter, opining on a constituency, half of which will be folded into his constituency at the next General election. Reeks. Unfortunately he's too wealthy to have to actually worry about anything but I'd just like to see him out of public life.
