Alex 35083
Just now, Gemmill said: It is. Majority Tory though, which slightly damages his claims that this is a Labour witch hunt. Aye. That’s him all over btw. Denies deliberately misleading Parliament whilst deliberately misleading everyone about the makeup of the committee investigating him. I don’t expect a satisfactory conclusion like. As others have said, it’ll probably be a suspension that falls short of triggering a by-election as that’s the last thing the government needs now. Especially given there’s a good chance they’d lose it

Especially given there’s a good chance they’d lose it In the short term yes but if it gets rid of Johnson it gives them a year to recover. It's the best option for Sunak in the longer term imo. He'll be found guilty imo but I admit I don't understand how the sanction is decided.
NJS 4386
He'll be suspended but short of the margin needed for a recall ballot/by-election imo. There'll be lots of shrugging and "that's just who he is" - yeah a lying cunt.

I heard it suggested it comes down to a HoP vote which sounds ridiculous. Hopefully whatever happens it will deal the tories more reputational damage. ewerk 30616
I think the sanction is recommended by the Privileges Committee and then voted for by MPs.

Renton 21627
What Johnson is suggesting would mean there has to be a hard land border put up in NI and there will be a trade war with the EU. If Sunak were in any doubt he needs to cut out this cancer now, this should put it beyond any doubt. As much as I don't like Sunak, I give him some respect as a pragmatist grounded in reality. He really needs to win this battle. Meanwhile I see inflation is still increasing. Great job tory cunts.

Quote The proposed arrangements would mean either that Northern Ireland remained captured by the EU legal order – and was increasingly divergent from the rest of the UK – or they would mean that the whole of the UK was unable properly to diverge and take advantage of Brexit. That is not acceptable. I will be voting against the proposed arrangements today. Instead, the best course of action is to proceed with the Northern Ireland protocol bill, and make sure that we take back control. This is exactly the deal he negotiated. Alex 35083
Well he spent most of his premiership arguing we needed to renegotiate the ‘oven-ready’ deal that was effectively his mandate so it’s not really a surprise. This investigation taken place is more or less the same carry on. He’s saying he mislead Parliament but it wasn’t intentional, ie he was unaware of the guidelines that were in place. And that he, as PM at the time, was ultimately responsible for.

Can you imagine turning up to a work tribunal and trying to make the case that you shouldn't be sacked, because the reason you fucked up on the job is because you're basically completely incompetent? That dossier the fat oaf presented was the best he could do with the help of a leading QC and £220,000 of tax payers money, and was essentially just that. He should go to prison for the multiple acts of criminality he has committed over the years. Morally, he should be executed for treason.

ewerk 30616
Quote The former prime minister often saw and joined these gatherings, either he was invited by Spads [special advisers] or spotted them whilst walking up to his flat. The route he took down the corridor looks straight into the press room and vestibule so it’s impossible not to see. He had the opportunity to shut them down but joined in, made speeches, had a drink with staff. He could have taken the issue up with Martin Reynolds, his principal private secretary, to shut them down. He could see what was happening and allowed the culture to continue. Quote In his statement yesterday Johnson said that he could not properly respond to the evidence that he sometimes joined Friday night drinks in the press office because the committee had not set out the allegation in detail. He said: The fourth report contains an opaque reference to Friday night “press pffice gatherings” which I am said to have “occasionally joined” (at §21). No further detail is provided, and no such specific events are identified by the committee. Insofar as any allegation is made by the committee, it is incumbent on the committee to make it so that I can respond to it. That is particularly so if the committee are referring to an event that has never previously been identified or investigated by Sue Gray or the Metropolitan police.
