Just watching Italia 90 docu on Channel 4.  They talk about the 80s and how fucked it was with the country and the unrest.  It could easily be about now.

I thought that too when I watched it.  I don't remember it being so hopeless then though, definitely we didn't have the spectre of climate change for instance. Or maybe it's just down to me changing my perceptions. Then again, was depression in children a thing then?

Btw if there was ever a time to cut the cord to twitter, it's now. With that giant manbaby Musk firing half the business at zero notice like a great big cunt, with advertisers pulling out, and him reportedly firing the team responsible for handling misinformation on the eve of the US midterms.

Everybody should delete it and sink the company and his $44bn investment.

It's about to become even more of a fucking cesspit anyway.

Aye, not bothering with it 👍🏻

I just use Twitter for following bands and shit like that, trimmed all the political stuff from my following list ages ago and my life is so much better since.  There's only so much toxic negativity you can take on a daily basis without it affecting your mental health.

Never understood some folks love affair with Musk either, not like he's a self made man or a modern day Nikola Tesla either.  Pretty sure he got his start in life when his dad gave him an emerald mine or something.

I remember I think JawD from here was the first person I ever knew who used it, and I just couldn't see the point in microblogging. Just another thing I was wrong about in hindsight. I joined but just as a lurker following some people. Never seen anything negative on it tbh, but guess I am just very selective.

I do wonder if all social media will just form separate bubbles and echo chambers with no cross pollination of ideas. Less understanding, less tolerance, less compromise. Twitter will just become another right-wing fucknut messaging app like Parler, Mastodon will be full of toontastic minded lefties having no impact on the real world. Musk is an absolute arse though. The whole point about town hall forums is no one person owns them. To succeed, twitter needs to be funded on a community based model imo, not owned by the world's richest man.

Can't say social media has been a bad thing overall, this place has really helped me, but it is a double edged sword.

I’d forgotten about the fracking vote. Tory MPs forced to vote for something they knew to be electorally toxic only for the PM to resign the next day and the entire policy subsequently reversed.

Really? I would have thought that could have waited. Fairly sure he quit as Braverman took the support of the ERG from him.

He didn’t need the ERG if he already had the 100 votes to get on the ballot. Plus a lot of the ERG would have backed him anyway. By the sound of things he’s strapped for cash.

Yeah, but he would have known about that before canvassing votes and fucking his "mates" over. I think both things are factors but if he had a clear path he would have taken it due to his ego.

Him saying he has the backing of 100 MPs and it actually being the case aren’t necessarily the same thing. I reckon he’d definitely have gone for it if he had the numbers, knowing the members would likely vote for him. The fact he could well have torn the party apart wouldn’t have bothered him imo. He took the prospect of returning so seriously he even came back from being on holiday.

Graham Brady said in interview this week that Johnson has 102 nominees.

Not yet. I see Mastodon is getting spoken about a lot, but it's not immediately obvious how best to use it. Someone will find an alternative soon enough and twitter will be left to the old, and stupid. Just like Facebook.
