Rayvin 5223
Think I heard a Labour MP say in the commons yesterday that 70% of them were legit. Depends where they're coming from too tbh, that may also be a factor in the increase. I wouldn't even put it past the Tories to have manufactured it themselves in order to give them something to 'win' on.

It would be interesting to see how many of those arriving are genuine asylum seekers and how many are economic migrants. Of course they should be presumed genuine until proven otherwise. My query is why is this sort of crossing becoming so regular in comparison to pre-2018 times? Is it because the French aren't co-operating since Brexit? Is it just a new tactic that people smugglers have cottoned on to? Regardless, the asylum system as it stands is fucked. We are seeing a lot more claimants but the main reason is more than likely a failure of the Tories to invest in the system, as in pretty much every other area of government. Well clearly at the very least Brexit hasn't helped. Almost certainly made it worse in fact because of our deteriorating relationship with the French and our refusal to participate in Dublin 2 agreement. Also I think there has been a clamp down on people smuggling in lorries which has displaced them onto the open sea. As well as ongoing geopolitical problems in areas of Asia, Europe and Africa. But mainly it's Labour's fault alongside the lefty lawyers. Edited November 1, 2022 by Renton

They are coming in boats because there is no other way, and the people smugglers exploiting the gap in that market, there is nothing for the French to co-operate with - There is no functioning screening process anywhere, even here - see backlog. Of those processed 80% are genuine refugees and granted asylum. Vast majority are from Syria and Afghanistan. Yeah but that would only encourage asylum seekers. This obviously has nothing to do with concerns about safety but keeping out those bloody forreners. I get that brings the “support” of the ERG, but that’s not really helped the last half a dozen, or whatever it is, PM’s has it, and the ERG isn’t exactly bursting with political heavyweights is it? The only conclusion I can draw is he'd consider it an admission of a serious error of judgement and undermine his premiership and instead he'll try to ride the storm out. Futile IYAM though. She put national security at risk on no less than 6 occasions since early September and is taking zero responsibility for the absolute mess at Manston which appears to have escalated exponentially since she took control of the Home Office. It won't be long before she fucks up again. I find it deeply disturbing we have a fascist Home Secretary who is referring to migration as an invasion. What the fuck is her game plan? Make the facilities as inhumane as possible as a means of deterrent? It won't work, you absolute dumb bitch!

There genuinely were no capable Brexiteers it seems.

Positives and negatives for me. On the positive side, I can only see the conservatives dropping further in popularity, to face a possible existential GE for them in a couple of years. I'll be getting the popcorn out for that one (although not the beer for me, unfortunately). On the negative side, they will have fucked up the country so badly by this stage we'll have to live with the consequences for the rest of my life. Which may be short, if Putin uses nukes. Or longer if the World just burns in a climate change catastrophe instead, which will fuck up my kids' lives. Swings and roundabouts then.
