And that's not just to oust the sitting government, it's on the basis that there has been seismic political upheaval on an unprecedented scale since we last went to the polls. The sitting government need reassurance that the mandate they consistently refer to is still authentic. They can't keep talking about an 80-seat majority considering since then we've had Brexit, the pandemic, an energy crisis, a cost-of-living crisis, one PM effectively removed from office and his replacement seemingly an utter PR disaster. The 2019 mandate holds no validity, it needs to be reaffirmed and, if it can't be, they need to step aside.
