The stupidity of that red wall polling is far too many of them saying their only problem is Johnson - it still hasn't got through to them that the tories as a whole hold them in contempt.

I just can't bring myself to get excited about him leaving. He's a cretin of the highest order but ffs, what replaces him is going to be it's own shade of shit too.

I bet he can't wait to get out of there anyway. Crocodile tears.

no wonder you lot are so miserable 😭

this guy is the antidote to happiness

everyone who he disagrees with is an “idiot”

I’ve watched good friends go down this path

i don’t care if people vote Labour (I’ve never seen any “fuck Labour” posts but I’ve seen hundreds of “fuck the tories” ones). It all doesn’t matter. They don’t care about you. They care about power.

People see things differently. They always have. You should allow people to feel differently and not exaggerate what they think and why.

It’s for your own good.

Joy doesn’t come from governments it is all within 😍

It is spot on though. You've got to be able to derive some pleasure from "Boris" being deposed. Also personally I don't see the need to automatically assume his replacement will help things for the tories, in fact I don't think they will. It's all good news.

I know what you mean but it’s nice to think of him as being utterly distraught

So, if a vote of no confidence is triggered, and Johnson survives it, what happens? It's a guaranteed 12 more months in office isn't it? Apologies, I can't remember all the machinations of the tory party (although I guess I should be used to it by now).

From where I'm standing, it looks very much like you're saying that the truth is doomed.

I'll say again, not all opinions are equal. Not all ways of thinking are equal. There is a choice between getting as close as you can to the most honest interpretation of the truth, and there's deliberately avoiding inconvenient facts in order to preserve a worldview that you feel is now part of your identity. The latter can never, should never, be treated equally to the former.

He's all doom and gloom because he's looking at the fucking truth. It's not even a Brexit rant this one, it's a statement about the utter ridiculousness of the Johnson/Cummings circus. None of which is wrong. It is shameful, beyond shameful in fact, that the UK has been reduced to these weasels.

I'll let Bridget know.

Judging people by your own standards isn't wise btw.

Everything O'Brien said was factually true. Some people can't or won't handle the truth though.

I've always wondered throughout my life is it better to know the truth, even if it makes you sad, or better to remain blissfully ignorant. I came to the personal conclusion that life is meaningless without truth, so would always opt for the former. It's pretty much informed my entire career trajectory and as you can see my personality. Not sure I made the right decision.

It’s part and parcel of being in power.

just replace Cummings with Campbell and Johnson with Blair

I’m not disputing the “facts” more pointing out that most people in the country don’t have the time or inclination to get worked up about what Twitter gets worked up by

To be happy you have to focus on yourself and your family and what you can change yourself

Who's getting joy from within when they've got to choose between heating and eating?  Are you proposing some sort of energy based natural selection?

But yourself and family are inevitably exposed to external forces which dictate your welfare. It goes back to this belief there is no such thing of society you seem to embrace. I know for a fact there is, and if society is better, my family will also be better. It's a fact that populations with comprehensive social care and welfare (such as Scandinavia) have the greatest happiness index scores. Countries which follow the US model, not so much.

Where did I say I don’t care about poverty?

Poverty is shit, I’m sure lots of us have been there.

Waiting for the government to fix it could be a long wait.

Yes but then large, widespread changes get made to the country that fuck over your plans and family, and at that point your realise that "just be happy and focus on yourself" is all well and good when the shit that's being done isn't touching you, but it's a rather different story when you are one of the people being fucked over. Now, that wasn't news to me tbh which is why I've had the views I've had over the course of my life - but Brexit did rather reinforce the point of what you get if you let complete fucking idiots built careers on packs of lies without calling it out.

If we just look the other way, we get fucked. We have a patriotic duty to look dead at them, as often as we can. We need to have institutions which scrutinise them, and we need to hold up those institutions and support them.  It is a civic duty to remain informed.

I’m not against the NHS or a certain amount of welfare.

Society does better when each member feels a sense of responsibility.

People think that football is a good metaphor for socialism but IMO it’s a better metaphor for what I’m saying.

if each player gives their best then the team benefits.
