ewerk 30259
Quote Jeremy Corbyn accused British 'Zionists' of having 'no sense of English irony' despite having 'lived in Britain all of their lives', in comments that have been slammed by Jewish groups as anti-Semitic, MailOnline can reveal. The remarks were made in 2013, when Corbyn was giving a speech alongside prominent British extremists, at a London conference promoted by the propaganda website of terror group Hamas. The Labour leader said: '[British Zionists] clearly have two problems. One is they don't want to study history, and secondly, having lived in this country for a very long time, probably all their lives, they don't understand English irony either.' He added: 'They needed two lessons, which we could perhaps help them with.' This shit isn't going anyway.
Meenzer 15401
There's 35 years' worth of source material for them to dig into. So no, it's not. Not that the press would be any "nicer" to any other Labour leader, but still, they could consider one who doesn't essentially live in a Sideshow Bob field o' rakes.
Dr Gloom 21812
FFS, Corbyn. The state of some of the loonies he’s shared a stage with, from conspiracy theorists, to Holocaust deniers, people who think the British Navy should be bombed and holocaust Memorial Day should be boycotted. I’m surprised he hasn’t appeared on a panel alongside Parky, though perhaps that’s the next skeleton to emerge from his closet. I still don’t buy into the JC line that he’s an antisemite but the latest comments unearthed in that DM piece are pretty damning.
ewerk 30259
It’s essentially saying that Jews aren’t fully British. Against what other minority could you say that and get away with it.

A lot of people have said that about other immigrants over the years - see the Windrush stuff as a good example of people being classified as not properly British. I agree he's a naive idiot on some things but I'd also say that if I understand how full on zionism is then there is an inherent "yearning" to move to Israel and/or consider it the be all and end-all of everything. Rayvin 5176
Yeah that doesn't cut it. If 90% of Muslims identified as extremists, would that mean he couldn't say the things he said with the label 'extremists'? (I'm not conflating the severity of the two, although I guess some would). Zionism is a political ideology, not a race. People choose to be zionists. Which is why there are also anti-Zionist Jews. 1 hour ago, PaddockLad said: I have no idea...are their any soecific uk groups that identify themselves as “Zionist”? https://zionist.org.uk/ Edited August 25, 2018 by Rayvin

The question is moot because that would require Corbyn to say something bad about Muslims. (Adding a safety wink but also, well.)

Ultimately though, Zionism itself is a complex subject. It's not like saying Muslim vs Wahhabist. It's a perfectly reasonable position to support Israel's continued existence in some form, whereas supporting the current regime and all of its actions is a much different proposition. I doubt 90% of British Jews fall into the latter category. 4 hours ago, ewerk said: :sigh: Go on.

It may be a reasonable position to hold, but I'm not sure that taking issue with how Israel was formed is an antisemitic proposition, even if received wisdom would be that this is an 'unreasonable' contention. adios 717
I thought the point being argued was that Corbyn went after all British Zionists with his comments and therefore loosely (if my definition and @ewerk's figure are correct) the entire British-Jewish population. ewerk 30259
At best it was a poor choice of language. At worst it’s anti-semitism. Could his refusal to adopt the full IHRA code be because some of it would see himself be thrown out of the party should evidence come to light?

It's a political ideology backed by a large number of a particular religion. I accept that there is an almost race like status around Judiasm but it remains an 'ism'. Corbyn regularly holds council with anti-zionist Jewish people so i think it's safe to assume that his interests and categorisations are political rather than racial. 17 minutes ago, ewerk said: At best it was a poor choice of language. It all feels like a premise for the establishment of the centrist party which will undoubtedly ensure Tory dominance going forward. But whatever. If i read something clearly anti Semitic from Corbyn then fair enough, but Anti Zionist isn't the same thing. I mean think it through ffs. If Zionist = Jew you wouldn't need both words.
