As for the why, it involves cake and eating it. Once the willy waving is over we will end up doing the same amount of trade with the EU as we do now and will have new trade deals with some of the fastest growing economies on the planet. His point about the need for greater diversity of voices? That's a fair one. The BBC had a mare with the amount of airtime it gave Farage in the build up to Brexit on question time etc while completely ignoring the greens and other fringe parties. Does that mean they were involved in establishment cover up over the Grenfell death toll? Of course it doesn't - the truth is, like all responsible news outlets, they only report confirmed deaths, even if the suspected final figure is much higher. Better to be accurate than first. is the public trust in the media dwindling? Unquestionably. But it's worth remembering that while we have some of the worst tabloid press around, the UK produces some of the greatest impartial news reporting and some of the most illuminating investigative journalism in the world. We shouldn't forget this, given we're living in an era of fake news, where any nutter can try using social media to spread all kinds of horse shit. That's what I worry about - the stuff that looks like it might be from a legitimate news source but which is in fact produced by some hack for hire in Eastern Europe - that isn't fact checked, or verified or impartial. Absolutely agree with the concerns. I was hoping that it might better portray my issue with the 'MSM' - not so much that I think they're part of some establishment cover up, but that by not expanding to include a wider range of ideas and views, they're effectively channeling the spirit of the establishment and the status quo in everything they report. Which at this moment in time, I would argue, is driving people to the fake news sites that you're complaining about (and which I fully agree are a blight on our information landscape). adios 717
People are driven to fake news sites because they tell them what they want to hear. It's the populace that drives media coverage (outside of state-controlled media) and the populace is a gang of half-wit cunts.
