Basically the French have issued duplicate polling cards to 500,000 people living outside of France. Which means they get to vote twice. And they're just going to let it stand.

 

I mean, as much as anything that staves off Le Pen is a good thing, this is dubious as fuck.

But yes, he's a neolib through and through. But if he has popular support while claiming to be an outsider who can shake things up, it means that the establishment has realised it has to play a different game now.

 

That said, if he continues with the same policies I expect this is just an exercise in kicking the can down the road. Hopefully he's someone of substance who can actually improve people's lives.

he's as establishment as they come, hence why markets have rallied this morning. investors were shitting it at the prospect of melenchon v le pen in the run off - two anti-globalist, protectionist, anti euro/EU leaders. either of those winning power and suddenly the entire EU project is looking in big trouble. 

 

instead we've got macron for sensible voters to hopefully rally around to keep le pen out. macron has promised fiscal discipline, labour market reforms in favour of business, rather than the worker. he was economy minister under hollande, so there is no big break from the past if he gets in power.
