NJS 4411
Sorry, are 99p shops a direct product of Austerity Britain now? More and more people are that desperate as a result of attacks on their incomes - a simple concept for the non-imbecile.

It's not the mispricing its the desperation to save pennies thats the point. Just like the food banks you simply have no concept of what people are being forced to exist on. As for the jobs if it's all along the lines of subway which is the headline today then its just more minimum wage shite.

Their increase is partly down to the Tories agreeing to advertise them in Job Centres, a long standing request of food ban operators and also one that was ignored by Labour because of possible bad publicity. Secondly, to use a food bank you must be in crisis and receive a voucher from a doctor, social worker etc. you only get three goes. They are there for people in severe crisis due to an event such as someone's whose had to flee a vicious partner or a mother whose partner has pissed the shopping money up against the wall or someone whose benefits haven't come through in time. Imbecile you say. I think you are.

Happy Face 29
It's not about scroungers. This weeks episode concentrated on a lad doing his CV and looking for work. It followed him on his first day working door to door canvassing for charities. On 100% commission he was banging on doors late into the night. Hardly workshy. The fella that helped him do a cv was himself unemployed and working in the community centre as a volunteer. The week before the show followed the Romanian inhabitants who were collected at dawn and dropped off at bed time. They worked a full day, were paid less than minimum wage and lived 4 men to a room under the threat of violence if they complained. They rang the police who came and did nothing whatsoever. Another group had a van and would spend their days collecting scrap metal to be cashed in. They claimed no benefits. The week before you saw a bloke using his initiative to split large packs of consumables into smaller servings and sell them door to door. The 50p man. He would let the desperate parents and children he came across have servings for free as well. Nice fella. What's annoyed me most in the whole furore over the show is the way the media has portrayed only the negative aspects of characters in it. White Dee and Fungi are only a couple of the most hopeless cases on there.

Also there are churches in and around the city, certainly in the East End, who are feeding kids their tea every night as they're so hungry. Happy Face 29
The other hypocritical view taken to Channel 4s programming is that Gogglebox is lauded as an hilarious and insightful look into the lives of ordinary Brits.....we watch the foul mouthed owners of a B&B sit on their couch getting slowly but surely pissed up on G&T, champagne, Vodka, Schnaaps and all sorts, but they're witty educated folk with a nice carpet we're comfortable to laugh along with. Foul mouthed piss heads like the rest of us. A week later we watch foul mouthed Fungi getting pissed up on Kestrel and he's Britains greatest monster. Nothing but contempt for the filthy animal. Also there are churches in and around the city, certainly in the East End, who are feeding kids their tea every night as they're so hungry. The Trussell Trust is the main food bank operator throughout the country. Care professionals such as doctors, health visitors, social workers, CAB and police identify people in crisis and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbanks partner with a wide range of care professionals who are best placed to assess need and make sure that it is genuine. Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for three days emergency food. Volunteers meet clients over a cup of tea or free hot meal and are able to signpost people to agencies able to solve the longer-term problem. I have no issue with food banks or there use, just with people who dress them up as a political football and portray this picture of every family on benefit queuing up to give there kids tea every night. Virtually any one who has dealings with a food bank will point you in the direction of drugs, alcohol, domestic violence etc as the main culprit. Dramatising it the way some of you do is as simplistic as people using that Benefit street program to bash benefit claimants.
TheMoog 0
There would be a lot less ill-feeling towards benefit claimants if benefits were paid out in food and utilities vouchers, so that the scroungers out there couldn't spend them on luxuries beyond their means or drugs, alcohol and fags. TheMoog 0
Would they then not just sell them below market value for cash? There must be some electronic way of making sure benefits are used by the right people? Issued on chipped cards maybe? I don't know, I suppose the scumbags out there would still get around it by buying the correct goods with them then selling those on instead.
