Christmas Tree 4841
Who here is better off than they were last election? That's not really the point. The financial disaster that took place on Labours watch has caused havoc. Many families and businesses will take heart that we now seem to be heading out of that disaster. Trying to quantify whether people are better off is tough given the fact that a lot of that pre crash happiness was fuelled by unrealistic borrowings and unsustainable government spending / policies. The stability of the interest rates for at least 3 years is very good news for a lot of families and business. Tbh Im not really bothered too much about the party politics of it, Im just very pleased its going in the right direction.

Inflation has consistently outstripped salary increases fir years now = real reduction in living standards. 1% increase in NHS pay now over 4 years, for instance, what's inflation been cumulatively in this time? Plus job security is shite at a time when most people couldn't survive a month without their income (Beeb article last week). Loads of other problems too numerous to get in to as well. Of course this will affect next election, mind so will the press and perception of Milliband. Of course it's good if we can get some economic growth, but think there's a danger of jumping the gun here considering previous economic estimates. Kevin Carr's Gloves 3981
Who here is better off than they were last election? I don't know anyone who is. It's a simple fact that living standards ate in perpetual decline, especially outside the capital. I fail to see what feel good factor the Tories have to win them votes, although the opposition is equally pathetic. I knew you'd post in this thread today CT, very predictable. I am.I was a student at the last general election.

Even more mental was the fact that the Conversatives had pledged to match their public spending during that time as well.

Even more mental was the fact that the Conversatives had pledged to match their public spending during that time as well. I said on their watch, particularly for sensitive souls. They did however add to our woes and failed to make the most of the booming economy left to them by the Tories in 97. Hard to criticise a shadow government for agreeing to match spending when they were unaware of the massive finacial black holes left by Labour. At least Liam found it funny. Anyway, at least a 100% Tory government is pretty much guaranteed now.

When you get into office and see the absolute mess and financial mis management then you have no option but to act on the facts rather than the fiction. Government spending is publicly available. We actually live in a very transparent country. The conservatives in opposition knew just as much as labour about the public accounts if they bothered to research it (which of course they have armies of researchers for). The sole problem was no-one foresaw the crash, the rest is blatant lies. What do you make if that odds checker?
