Howmanheyman 33166
Maybe getting good loan players is the way to go. Hasn't done Everton any harm or West Brom the other year. We've had an in form striker showcasing his talents and who's to say he wont tail off a bit when he starts to get restless/bored/complacent? /Devilsadvocate
David Kelly 1244
All players are just temporary for us lets face it. They see us as a stepping stone to bigger and better paying clubs. Most of them don't actually seem to be able to sustain the form that would see these bigger clubs coming in for them though!

In regard to pay structures the way the club is set up financially I would imagine a move to any other premiership club would see an increase in wages even clubs below us in the league. Also I would imagine there will be quite a bit of interest in the likes of Cabaye, HBA, Krul etc obviously the sticking point will be what others want to pay for them. Brock Manson 0
Manager Alan Pardew is thought to be weighing up a bid for the Republic of Ireland international in the current transfer window. 'On the verge' of another bid for a player then. He's fucking shite anyhow.

trooper 940
You've got to laugh at Ashley's "it's the thought that counts" approach to transfer windows. Agreed it wouldnt be so bad if they'd put the bids in and been knocked back at least it would look like they're having a go. But it's all the "on the verge of" "shit. They may as well come out with "we're on the verge of possibly considering putting in bids for Messi, Ronaldo, &Bale" it's bollocks.
Rayvin 5217
Cardiff poised to pick up Zaha due to OGS giving head to someone in the MUFC boardroom apparently. We can now follow up our feigned interest with feigned disappointment. Edited January 7, 2014 by Rayvin

desmondTUTU 0
Long is fairly useful tbf but now we have staved off relegation for the season not sure if i can see money being spent or not.
StoneColdStephenIreland 74
We'll not sign anyone. We've pretty much got a 9th and above finish nailed on (barring an absolute catastrophe that only this club could serve up) and thats what the board want. A top half finish, they'll be thinking why spend when we've got our goal for the season.
Kevin Carr's Gloves 3892
They'll spend if they think they can get someone cheaper than in the summer
ewerk 30598
That's basically it. If we can exploit a release clause or buy someone who is out of contract in six months then we will but it looks like we're refusing to pay full price for anyone. JawD 99
I could see Remy to Arsenal at the end of the season and us picking up another loan unless Cisse is moved on.
ChezGiven 0
I think its important to remember that collective predictions have tended to be wrong a lot recently. The club was not going to sign anyone last January according to most posters predicting relegation in the run up to Christmas. No one expected 5 players. We werent going to sign a striker in January after the disappointment of the summer of 2011. No one expected Cisse. The last 2 January windows have been good after bad summers. Doesn't mean this January will be good, just means its hard to say what will happen. Given where we are in the league i agree its unlikely for us to proactively meet a player valuation. That doesn't mean we wont see a new face in the team. Hard to say really.

trooper 940
Yeah, but making predictions based on gut feel is part of the fun of being a football fan With the gut feeling being we'll sign nobody the clues are there happy with the league position & a stronger squad than last season. If we were down near the relegation zone we may have seen some spending done but were we are at the minute it's unlikely.
jonasjuice 0
The same policy as ever will continue - if there's value in a deal it'll probably get done. Not simply a matter of he won't spend because he wants to save money - there's profit to be made in the market with patient and shrewd spending. While frustrating, this isn't an entirely ridiculous strategy. Especially since we've clearly seen he won't let players go cheaply.
Park Life 71
Do think they're properly on the look out for a striker.
BigWalrus 0
Ashley is a successful businessman. Successful businessmen such as Ashley have a focus on long term strategy rather than the immediate. The five signings last January were all players the club had identified as good fits much earlier. I don't think they weren't panic buys at all, aside from perhaps Gouffran who came in as a short term replacement for Ba and has probably done better than most people expected. I still think they dropped a bollock in not getting hold of Sissoko and Debuchy before the end of August (they admitted as much) but they had all the hallmarks of deals that were months in the making rather than impulse signings. If we do sign someone, it's likely to be someone we've been watching for a while and is very much on our radar. Ashley is cautious with his cash, he isn't going to throw £10m at someone we've never seen play.
