What if the Aliens had've won in Independence day?

Would we have continued to resist like the people in 'V' did till we won instead or been part of a cracking intergalactic empire?

Were they not looking to consume our resources? I think the point was that they moved from planet to planet consuming the resource (in much the same way humanity would do), rather than creating a galactic empire.

 

So I reckon they'd have flat out exterminated us, leaving anyone left to pick over the corpse of a dying planet.
