What if we'd lost World War 2

I think that CT's been treated a bit harsh here - fair enough "overlooking" the holocaust is stupid but its not that bad a question to ask overall.I suppose it depends how the alternative ended - if they'd never invaded Russia then they might have invaded Britain in about 42 but would still have had to deal with Stalin eventually. Or if they'd defeated Stalin as well that would bring the Americans into play but preumably the Germans would have succeeded with their rocket programme and probably with an atomic bomb.Another question would have been how effective a resitance would have been in Britain.

Good post that....another thing that stopped a full invasion was apparently the amount of naval hardware we had sat in the North Sea....several "salty sea dogs" who I've worked with in shipbuilding will tell you an invasion fleet would have struggled to make it beyond Dogger Bank....

CT you could do a lot worse than to listen to these Hardcore Histories podcasts that people have mentioned on here. I'm listening to one at the minute called Logical Insanity about the decision to drop the atomic bomb in Japan. Really good stuff.

Funny that. Just watching a JFK thing discovery and came on here to ask if there are any good historical documentary series I can d/l.

I'll give that a look but any reccommends with pictures as well as words  would be welcome.

There you go CT. No need for any of that pesky reading!

Did give this about 20 minutes but not really the sort of thing I was looking for. Very dated and all set up at a premise of the world discovery what the Nazis had done rather than what "might have been".

Thanks anyway though. Nice to see Rutger. :)

See the other thread where I've just asked that question..! But if you listen to that BLITZ Logical Insanity episode, that's good.

In terms of film documentaries, I've just recently started watching this:

This is great too (narrated by Laurence Olivier). Think it got a mention earlier in the thread:

So has anyone got a documentary that is specifically about what might have happened if the Germans won the war, which was also made in the last 5 years. If CT is gonna watch something that depicts events that are 70 years old, he expects AT THE VERY LEAST, that it's been filmed in HD.

I just mean I'll watch the documentary version that is based on the actual plans post invasion.

Fatherland looks more about the USA discovering Germanys dirty secret. A sort of cold war who dunnit type film. (And very dated acting etc.)

I've tried to listen to some of those, but found them canny boring.

I tend to be selective with IOT. Can't be arsed with the ones about episcopal bishops from the 17th century or whatever. But I love some of the science and maths ones. I think it was the one on the vaccum of space that blew my mind....

It might have been another space one, but because it's much more dry than HHH I think you have to be interested in the topic to start with rather than relying on someone as passionate as Carlin to bring it to life for you.

Its quite amazing how much stuff there is to know.

Aye.

But what would Britain be like if there hadn't been a royal institution?
