Park Life 71
You can see why parts of the Left are lost in the UK because even on QT they won't admit/ don't understand why Trump won. They seem more worried about his misogyny than doing trade deals. Then they go off on one on how they will or won't deal with America......We'll do as we're fukin told. Park Life 71
I thought Ed said some accurate things I don't understand why they have some hysterical blonde on there who knows nothing about politics....(Literature professor)? Building relationships with Putin has been thrown out the window as 'weakness'... We've had a whole program and I reckon 90% of it has been devoted to discussions about 'personality and misogyny'. This should be scheduled under entertainment in future. Edited November 10, 2016 by Park Life

Alex 34787
Apologies if this has already been mentioned but I read that the turnout for the election was only about 52%. Given the unprecedented profile I find that incredible. I also think it's a damning indictment on both candidates but, arguably, Hilary even more so. It's lower than the last 3 by a couple of percentage points but probably about average when you look at the last 5. Either way though it's a good point. Given that populists will reach out to those who are disaffected, it makes me wonder how much worse this situation actually is than we're currently considering it to be. Unless of course people were so sure that Hillary would win that they stayed home...

Which would make it the second highest turnout in 44 years.

I read an article saying it was estimated to be 51-52%. I wouldn't know how that relates historically but thought it seemed quite low. I think even the figure you gave seems very low for a high turnout as well, if you know what I mean.

I do think about that sort of thing in relation to polls generally and wonder if they should be banned for a much longer period before a vote. I wonder if more people would have come out and voted remain if they knew Brexit was going to happen and the same applies re: Hillary. Obviously that's a hypothetical that can never be answered but you probably take my point in that if you thought Hilary / Remain were going to win going off the polls then you'd be more likely to think 'fuck it, I can't be arsed'. I suppose those people deserve what they get. Does everyone else though? Edited November 11, 2016 by Alex

ewerk 30221
I got my figure from here http://www.electproject.org/2016g Since women and non-whites got the vote in USA the turnout for presidential votes has traditionally been low compared to other advanced democracies. I'm sure there's plenty of theories as to why but it's odd given the president's standing in American life.

I suppose those people what they get. Does everyone else though? Yep, it's a fair point. The 'rebel' side is always likely to be more motivated to get its voter base out as well. For Brexit, I think you could credibly argue that those who didn't vote simply didn't know what the fuck their opinions on the whole thing were. For the US elections, where Trump had like a 15% chance of winning, I think it could have had more of an impact.

It's still a shit turnout though considering the magnitude of it. But as has been said, it's difficult to vote if you believe both of the candidates are absolute shit cunts.
