None of this changes the fact that of the 6 games Spurs and Swansea have played after the EL since September, 3 losses, 2 draws and 1 last minute win against a shit Cardiff.

There are too many confounding facfors just to hoy up points won over the 3 separate seasons as proof that the above form is not related.

Don't follow how your narrow analysis of cherry picked games this year is more valid than the over arching trend of past seasons.

Looking at your post earlier. The teams on the up, investing and spending are more than compensating for the additional strains.

The clubs that didnt have the resources or the owner to do that (us, Fulham, Villa, Stoke) all did worse.

Its virtually impossible to disentangle the impact of resources spent, the changing speed and fitness levels of the game, the levelling of the premier league field in terms of spend across the league etc etc. It renders analyses across time too complicated.

Looking at it simply, Laudrup said it doesnt make a difference. For his teams, in his circumstances, it looks like it has.

Loads of other factors going on, from club to club and manager to manager, with different players there will be different abilities to cope with extra games. I just assume this was Pardew's way of blaming Ashley without saying it directly. The EL does make a difference, you can compensate for it by actually improving the squad depth and quality. If you dont, it will have an impact. Not true for everyone but for some.

I agree with all that.....but of the teams that spent or didn't, or had injury woes or not, or had harder games after Europa or not, Pardew's drop off from his qualifying season to the next was worse than ANY other manager has suffered, by a long way....and that's despite his record in games after a europa fixture being BETTER than his record in games without one.

There's not many teams that over perform to the extent we did in 11/12 though. Last year Swansea qualified in 9th so if they finish 16th it won't be viewed as such a disastrous showing comparatively. Spurs won't drop off to any great degree because they've spent all the Bale money. Pardew has been a victim of his own success there, no doubt, but Everton, Villa and Fulham are the ones you can compare with us, clubs that finished 5th to 7th and didn't really invest to push on. They all fell off the pace the next year, but none of them anywhere close to the extent we did.

If you have squad depth to enable rotation I can't imagine how it can ever be an issue.

Really? If you have an away Europa fixture then that is going to take up at least four days of the manager's and squad's time in preparation and travelling. It isn't just about the physical exertion of playing 90 minutes but the disruption and mental fatigue that goes along with it.

I think that's why Pardew did better in the league after a Europa game. No time to fill their heads with shite. They just went an played their game more.:D
