How did the Premier League teams fair in the Transfer Window

Premier League managers and owners inevitably spend the first few weeks of every season pleading not to be judged until the transfer window shuts.

Fortunately for us, we had the Sunday Mirror's Matt Law ready and waiting at midnight to send down his judgement from on high.

Each team has been marked from 1-10 on the success of their recruitment, and you can let us know what you think of your team's rating on Twitter @MirrorFootball.

So here it goes….

ARSENAL

Arsene Wenger finally splashed the cash to land a world-class player in Mesut Ozil.

But Arsenal missed out on getting a new striker and must now hope Olivier Giroud stays fit. Despite the failed Luis Suarez bid, Mathieu Flamini will add some bite.

Score: 8

ASTON VILLA

Villa’s best piece of business was undoubtedly to keep Christian Benteke at the club.

Manager Paul Lambert has landed plenty of new recruits, but they will all need time to adapt to the Premier League.

Score: 7

CARDIFF

The biggest spenders of the newly-promoted Premier League clubs have already caught the eye this season.

Steven Caulker could prove to be one of the best signings of the summer for £8million from Tottenham.

Score: 7

CHELSEA

Made a big play for Wayne Rooney but, ultimately, failed to land him and signed a player the club didn’t need in Willian.

Much will depend on whether 32-year-old Samuel Eto’o can still reproduce his best form.

Score: 6

CRYSTAL PALACE

Striker Dwight Gayle is the gamble of the transfer window and manager Ian Holloway must hope it pays off.

The signings of Arsenal and Aston Villa misfits Marouane Chamakh and Barry Bannan are puzzling, and Holloway’s defence still looks weak.

Score: 5

EVERTON

Perhaps enjoyed the best deadline day of all the clubs, despite finally losing Marouane Fellaini.

Romelu Lukaku could be a key signing for Everton, while James McCarthy and Gareth Barry should make up for Fellaini’s loss. Keeping Leighton Baines was vital.

Score: 8

FULHAM

Martin Jol was not given big sums of money to spend by the club’s new owner Shahid Khan.

Darren Bent looks a shrewd loan capture, while Scott Parker will look to rediscover his best form at Craven Cottage.

Score: 6

HULL

Manager Steve Bruce did well to sign midfielders Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore from Tottenham.

But, despite the capture of Danny Graham, Hull still look short of a quality striker.

Score: 6

LIVERPOOL

What a difference a year makes. Liverpool were left short 12 months ago, but have done good business this time around.

Manager Brendan Rodgers has kept Luis Suarez and strengthened the areas of his squad that needed most attention.

Score: 9

MANCHESTER CITY

Unlike their rivals, City got the majority of their business done early, only adding Martin Demichelis in the final days.

Alvaro Negredo already looks a promising acquisition, but City may miss the energy of Carlos Tevez up front or coming from the bench.

Score: 7

MANCHESTER UNITED

It could not have gone much worse for David Moyes and Ed Woodward in their first transfer window together.

They were forced to overpay to land Marouane Fellaini and botched bids for Cesc Fabregas, Leighton Baines and Ander Herrera. Must do better in January.

Score: 2

NEWCASTLE

Director of football Joe Kinnear asked to be judged on his signings.

A fair request, so here it goes – Kinnear’s appointment was a total waste of time and money. Good luck Alan Pardew.

Score: 0

NORWICH

The surprise package of this summer’s transfer window, Norwich went about their business quietly and efficiently.

Ricky Van Wolfswinkel, Nathan Redmond and Leroy Fer should all prove to be good signings.

Score: 8

SOUTHAMPTON

Prioritised quality over quantity to strengthen the spine of the team.

Victory Wanyama was convinced to give up Champions League football at Celtic, while Johnny Depp lookalike Pablo Osvaldo gives Mauricio Pochettino options up front.

Score: 8

STOKE

Stoke’s most significant summer move was to replace manager Tony Pulis with Mark Hughes.

The decision of Hughes to re-sign Jermaine Pennant paid off at West Ham and he managed to add new striker Marko Arnautovic to his squad.

Score: 6

SUNDERLAND

Paolo Di Canio has been one of the busiest Premier League managers in the transfer market.

Fabio Borini and Andrea Dossena both arrived on deadline day and Di Canio must hope he has the quality to match the quantity.

Score: 5

SWANSEA

What threatened to be a rocky summer for Swansea looks to have turned out very nicely.

Wilfried Bony and Jordi Amat appear to be the pick of Michael Laudrup’s signings, while Jonjo Shelvey may well thrive in Wales.

Score: 8

TOTTENHAM

This must rate as the most spectacular summer of transfer business in the club’s history.

Gareth Bale finally left for a world record fee, but not before Spurs had signed seven replacements. The Arsenal defeat proved the new boys will need time, but Erik Lamela and Co should come good.

Score: 8

WEST BROM

Manager Steve Clarke was finally allowed to splash some cash to break the club’s transfer record in a deadline-day raid for Stephane Sessegnon.

Nicolas Anelka, Victor Anichebe and Matej Vydra were also signed to make up for the loss of Romelu Lukaku. Only time will tell if the new forwards can be as prolific.

Score: 6

WEST HAM

Failed to land a deadline-day striker, which means manager Sam Allardyce will be praying Andy Carroll can get fit quick.

Once Carroll is back, the signing of Stewart Downing to provide the ammunition may prove to be very clever.

Score: 7

Remy's not a signing, he's on bail and has been shifted out of QPR so their name is not besmirched. They'll be hoping he gets cleared and then they'll bring him back.

Obviously as we already exist in mud, dragging us through it is matterless.

Certainly seems like a very short term move from us. Seems to fit the theory of fatty recouping his loans and then selling up....but could just be the usual hunt through the bargain bin from us....

Madness if it's true we haven't an option to buy as they're likely to come back up and his price will go through the roof if they do.

I agree. Locking in a cheap option while he's accused of rape would be the smart thing to do. If it all turns to custard you don't exercise the option obviously

They're spot on with us. I think they've scored Arsenal too high given that they haven't signed a striker and their defence has looked week for years. Ozil is a quality player but they aren't exactly short of attacking midfielers.

Bigging up Downing as a way of providing for Carroll for wist am is a bit rich too. Given that they spectacularly failed together with the micky mousers!
