Kid Dynamite 7025
Good choice imo. We would only be supporting the US in adding another middle eastern nation to their top trumps pack. Wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if the CIA were supporting Assad to manufacture a reason to go to war. There was a female MP on sky news this morning who very eloquently explained the reasons behind her decision not to support the vote. The sky presenter was doing his best Kay Burley impression and accusing her of having the blood of innocent people on her hands essentially. Cameron played another blinder here btw. Time for labour to appoint a new leader and clean up at the next election. It's in the bag

"The world has an obligation to make sure that we maintain the norm against the use of chemical weapons." [because] The main findings of the released unclassified summary state that the attack killed 1,429 people, including 426 children. aimaad22 4156
Not to mention the fallout that takes place as a result of the drone strikes.Imagine the state of a man finding out his family's been bombed to death from out of nowhere. Then there have been weddings, functions, makeshift schools and hospitals etc that have been bombed. Another Nobel peace prize for Obama should help fix it all though,

Howmanheyman 33173
Was just watching the top story on BBC news, which is a speech on the economy by Osbourne and opinion on it from political and econmic commentators, you then switch to SKY where the focus is on John Kerry telling everyone how bad Assad is alongside Hague and then showing clips of US talkshows interviewing Assad. Read an old copy of the Sun lying about at work, (I was bored), after the government was defeated and the narrative was disgust we weren't taking military action with words like 'shame' banded around and slaughtering Labour as cowards and making comparisons with Neville Chamberlain/Churchill etc. Am I putting two and two together by thinking some Murdoch's organisations are still agitating for some kind of conflict despite it being knocked on the head? NJS 4378
This thread would turn epic if Leazes was still around. The complexities of the rebels being Jihadists and having used Sarin themselves would have been twisty for him (as it is for everyone tbf). In 2007 it requested the maximum extension of the deadline permitted by the Chemical Weapons Convention – five years. Again it failed to keep its promise, and in 2012 it claimed they would be gone by 2021. Russia yesterday urged Syria to place its chemical weapons under international control. Perhaps it should press the US to do the same
Dr Gloom 21915
it'll be interesting to see if obama does halt attacks if Syria cedes control of arms s requested by the russians. maybe obama isn't the war monger after all. it was starting to look like that. or maybe he's just realised public opinion and the house of representatives are against strikes. Dr Gloom 21915
Either way, it's a master stroke by the Russians - like a grandmaster chess move. Though if could strengthen Obama's hand in a week or so passes and Syria don't hand the weapons over. Who'd be an Obama speech writer now though? essembeeofsunderland 811
do we know how many chemical weapons the Syrians have and what if they simply purchase replacements if the UN take the ones they have.

Dr Gloom 21915
it might not be the most practical solution given the syrians have spent the last decade insisting they don't have any chemical weapons.
