OTF 7295
Started loosely following Newcastle United around 1994 when I would check the newspaper in the school library for the premier league results on a Monday (along with NBA results). The reasons behind choosing to follow Newcastle are two-fold, firstly I was drawn to the familiarity of the namesake Newcastle approximately 2 hours north of Sydney where I live, secondly they fit the bill for my requirements in that they were well placed on the table and weren't one of the popularly supported glory teams - primarily being Manchester United and Liverpool. Started watching games as much as possible at the turn of the millennium through to now - with the ability to watch just about every Newcastle game both a blessing an a curse. If I could turn back time I wouldn't change a thing, although there's been plenty of suffering on the painful winter 2am games where you wonder why you bother (and just about all of 2008/09) there's been some good times as well. It's not in my makeup to support a team that always wins (that's been cemented by Newcastle).
Happy Face 29
After a few years following them on telly and vicariously through my brother, first game i went to was this... http://www.11v11.com/matches/newcastle-united-v-blackburn-rovers-29-august-1993-21303/ Strangely I can remember Shearers equalising tap in by the post, but not Cole's goal that gave us the lead :S Have i mixed them up? One of Papavasiliou's 7 appearances for us, hence my previous user name.

Jill 0
Always lived in Newcastle. Parents and grandparents always lived in Newcastle, and as many generations above them as I'm aware of. Technically I was born in Hexham but only because the specialist unit my mam needed was there at the time. Came straight home to Newcastle as soon as I was out of the hospital. McFaul 35
Surprised there so many real McCoy Geordies. I thought the criteria involved being born, residing in and never leaving the area comprising the 10m radius from the central point of Stevie's lounge room. That takes in Washington. At the end of the day, people can support who they want, no one can accuse any Newcastle fan of being a glory hunter now.
Gemmill 44894
As a kid, I used to be self conscious about having been born in Yorkshire, because of how proprietary people are about the Geordie tag (I don't consider myself one btw). It obviously wasn't just me though cos even in this thread, as adults, you can sense people defensively posting their credentials for fear of being judged. Contrasted with the balls in a wheelbarrow attitude of those born in "the right place", slapping their credentials down on the table like they're absolutely beyond reproach. themags 0
Born in Co.Durham, now living in eastern Europe (ooh get me). Been away from is fucking awful when we're doing well, watching us beat Sunderland 1 nil, Taylor over the wall, alone pissed on a laptop was just strange. Although when we're doing shit, it helps, you can switch off from it all and take in some perspective Meeting endless amounts of man utd, chelsea 'fans' grinds you down as well

When Bellamy scored the winner the fucking adrenaline running through you, but having to keep quiet and just make out nothing was going on. Not even being able to turn to the person next to you and convey the wonder of what just happened. Bizarre.
TheTaffer 0
Born in Hexham (lived in Wylam), moved down to London at the age of 5. Not really sure what group that puts me in as nobody I know would say I'm a geordie (lost the accent pretty quickly down south) and Wylam isn't exactly Newcastle. I do have a season ticket though having been at Uni in Edinburgh for the last 4 years. I think I might be best described as confused
Dr Gloom 21924
i've got so many mates down in london that are liverpool or man u fans, despite having zero connection to the towns their clubs come from. it's the liverpool fans that do my head in the most - most of them have never even been to anfield and they're quick to mock newcastle fans for always whinging and assume the majority are like the muppets you see hanging around outside sjp on sky sport news. i suspect though that deep down they grudgingly respect that most newcastle fans come from, or have a connection to the region, and that they stick with the club in high volume, despite the shite we've been served up over the years. TheTaffer 0
Couldn't agree more with that. I've got a friend who says he supports Liverpool because he had a cleaner that was from there (he has never been to anfield).

Aye I lived with a lad at Uni who as that kind of Liverpool ''fan''. He was born a stones throw away from Bootham Crescent and still supported Liverpool. I wouldn't have minded if he was Leeds - as that's fair enough. He would take the piss out of Newcastle and I'd just say ''but you're not really a Liverpool fan are you?'' and he couldn't take it. I probably knew more about the history of Liverpool than he did at the time - he'd never set foot in Liverpool
