So the sky fuckers have brought my free line rental deal to an end :(

Time for a change.

Just revisited the talk talk customer service comments above. Is the problem that it keeps going off or you don't get what you are promised.

Every time the bills gone up I've flat out stated I can't afford to pay the increased rate and feign the process of cancelling. They've called my bluff a couple of times and sent me the cancel letters and given me a final date and stuff. Then, sure as night follows day I'll get a phone call from some softly spoken Scottish call-centre worker who simpers "och, Mr watson, we've sin yer leavin' us and were wunderin' if thuz anythin' we kin doo"

Ten minutes later I've got the full Sky package for under £50 again.

Aye, used to get the same when we had sky TV. Haven't had the TV package for a while as we never used it and now Kodi fulfils anything non std tv we may want to watch.

I'm just shopping around basically because the free line rentals ended.

Had a fancy for fibre but as the broadband currently works perfectly with all this streaming and 5 or 6 users attached, I'm not even sure of the point in that.

I'm at a loss

Why not just get a dodgy box for £60 a year?

Have a look for decent Quidco offers if you're going to change.

Partly because it's dead easy to sort Sky out and dodgy boxes are, by their very nature, a bit dodgy and someone else can sort out the technical shit if it goes wrong.

Partly because my lass is uncomfortable with watching "acquired" movies or tv shows. (I think she thinks SWAT will boot the door in just because we're watching a snide copy of Inside Out.)

:dunno:

There might be deals that give you a free mac/iPad or something?

The box is a piece of piss, plug it in and away you go. I've had one problem in two years. It'd save you £600 a year.

Saying that the only thing I really use it for is football, there isn't much else on there worth watching, certainly nothing to justify that cost.

I can understand the satisfaction of gaining a win against the man but presuming you can afford it I find people doing this to be a bit strange. You could just pay the going price for what you get.

I don't think I get full value from my sky subscription but being honest I use it as an ethical crutch for the downloading I do. My view is I pay for it anyway so getting stuff early isn't a problem.

That's kind of like going into a car dealer and paying the asking price without attempting to haggle. If they're prepared to offer the same product for less then it's foolish not to attempt it.

Buying a car is different to most things though. You wouldn't haggle over the price of a fridge for example (though I used to work with a lad who did) and I think arguing over 10 quid a month is a bit trivial (assuming we're talking about people who aren't struggling financially).

I would definitely haggle over a fridge, or an oven or whatever. Just makes sense, the salespeople have flexibility to drive through a sale, so why in God's name would you not take advantage of that flexibility? You're not taking money out the pocket of the poor spotty oik trying to flog a 3yr warranty on a toaster.

Also, it's more than a tenner. The Sky package I have should cost about £100.

There's no moral reason not to haggle, although if you try and do it for white goods at a decent shop, they will tell you to get fucked. I've found personally and anecdotally from others Virgin media won't let you get decent concessions now though, they'll cut you off.

Downloading copyrighted material is of course morally wrong, unlike haggling, it's done without consent so is essentially theft. It's really not justifiable so best not even try imo. I do stream football sometimes but only the matches which aren't on TV but it's still illegal, so guess I'm a hypocrite. It does surprise me a bit on here though that virtually no-one has a problem with it because it's seen as a "victimless" crime. Most people on here can easily afford this content legally.

Never had a problem getting a discount for white good at decent stores. John Lewis etc are happy enough to give you a deal if you chance your arm. Not necessarily a discount on the actual doodad, but they'll often happily chuck in warranties/accessories/whatever.

I only ever stream the 3 o'clock games, though I'd be happy enough paying for a package that let me watch them and wasn't a massive pain in the arse.

John Lewis have never let me negotiate on anything, and believe me I have tried. They will price match any other high street store though if you provide proof. What I do is check out curry's for special offers, buy from JL and get their excellent customer service and returns policy, and warranties.

I was given an iPad mini 8gb as a introductory gift by the accountancy service I use which I promptly took, still in its cellophane wrapping, to the local JL, who allowed me to use it as a "downpayment" on a 32gb full sized iPad with cellular, which I am writing this very post with :good:

Guess it's just Renton who doesn't get the good deals?

probably because he looks like Gordon Ramsay

Am not sure PL was describing a deal, he was referring to the excellent returns service. I've taken loads of things back and upgraded etc. They won't give you a penny of their prices unless you can price match though.

You should haggle over everything. In my sofa selling days, the pricing was done like this.

Cost: £500

Retail £1300

(This allowed for profit and being able to offer interest free credit).

Some people would just pay the full price, others would play hard ball and get the price down to £850.
