Buzz has continued to build about the social media giant Twitter's launching a new music app this weekend.

Key "influencers" have already been given a sneak preview of the software ahead of a public roll-out, expected within days.

Tech site AllThingsD said the music service, originally mooted for a Friday launch, may now be launched this weekend at the Coachella music festival at Indio, California.

Early on Saturday Wiz Khalifa, who has nearly 10 million follows, tweeted: "Man this new Twitter music app is insane!"

On Thursday Ryan Seacrest wrote: "Playing with twitter's new music app (yes it's real!).."

He added: "Lovin the app ... shows what artists are trending, also has up and coming artists ..."

users will be able to hook it up to Spotify, Rdio, iTunes, Soundcloud, Vevo and YouTube.

We Are Hunted, the company Twitter bought and immediately shut down, specialised in scanning the web for mentions of upcoming bands and presenting a stream of new music in an attractive tile-based interface. Its emerging music chart was widely regarded as one of the best barometers for the popularity of new songs on the web.

I can tweet my music through spotify app, I get recommendations through it as well... not seeing the benefit so far.

I'm not sure yet either.

I follow 219 separate artists on Twitter, but there's only 30 recommended artists on the music app that haven't changed all day. I Would have thought I could mark them as "not interested" or something so that they refresh with alternatives.

You have to have a spotify premium account to listen to full tracks too...even on your desktop, although Spotify free plays full tracks on the desktop version.

Yeah given to get the most from Twitter Music app you basically need to have another app that does a lot of Twitter's thing anyway... seems daft.

It would have been better if they just got Spotify and rdio to include a twitter recomendations feed based on what's popular among who you follow.

I do struggle to find anyone i want to follow on Spotify.
