Thatcher Dead

She invented the welfare class by taking people's jobs away? You've got that back to front. She freed the country from the burden of having to pay for unecomic industries, and one of the benefits of that was that when they all went running to the dole office to collect their 'entitlements' there was enough money in the pot to pay for them, as well as to fund future industries like the Nissan plant that has outlasted any nationalised factory opened in the godawful era of the 70s. It's a shame that so much money was wasted fighting cunts like Arthur Scargill, and other scumbags who never created a single job in their entire lives (except of course the cleaner for his NUM funded house, who is probably Polish as there's no English person willing to lower themselves to such a position).

Farming and Banking - the most subsidised industries in history.

You should know by now that when you try and use "facts" you lose/

More days were lost to strikes under her.

the top rate was 60% - the 98 included investment income which only applied to the mega rich.

Like she would have worked with the unions.

I asked you yesterday to expain how other countries did it better with less pain - Im guessing I'll not get any answers.

I was referring to the unions not having the foresight to change under previous governments, not Thatchers.

Basically the country was in managed decline mode and the unions were only interested in stuffing their pockets as the ship went down.

If they had have had leaders who understood the global threats then maybe we could have had a fighting chance of reform rather than the warfare that happened in the eighties.

Has to be a closet Tory who sees the regular kicking I get and hasnt got the balls to fight his / her corner under there real user name ;)

Not being funny CT but you waste your breath talking to the majority on here of this particular subject, they're a 'tad' blinkered. I'm sure I'll get abuse for saying that much but they have their beliefs and we have ours, I think it probably best sticking to footy in this instance.

I don't know anyone vaguely left wing including myself who doesnt regard him as a tory cunt.

The thing is you all sat on your principles and voted Labour in because you thought he would change, "once he got in".

I remember the union labourites jumping up and down with joy when he won, thinking he would suddenly change.

If the unions were running the country why did the winter of discontent happen? surely they just needed to ring up and get 50% rises but no they had to strike

Which way do you want it? Thatcher is lauded for standing up to the miners but Callahan is pilloried = do you think she would have given the public sector workers what they wanted?

Can't believe you're suggesting that CT refrain from comment because the left wing people on here are blinkered. CT is without a doubt one of the most biased men I've ever met.

You keep mentioning Blair like the left think he's anything but a warmongering, self serving arsehole.

The conversation is about how Thatcher increased poverty levels, increased unemployment, saw two recessions under her governance, began the house-price-boom, increased the pay gap and with that saw a dramatic rise in inequality.

http://www.guardian....thatcher-charts

Add to that her tolerance of South Africa's Apartheid, cozying up to dictators like Pinochet, her demonising of football fans (specifically her role in covering up the Hillsborough criminals)

What drivel borne out of an ignorance of what the country was like pre thatcher.

I've never voted Labour since he abolished clause 4.

All I'm saying is there may be a small hint of bias, nothing else. Besides, there's much more entertainment to be had from drawing eyebrows on dogs apparently.

Do you think 70s Britain was really worse than Germany/France etc?

The EU has already and will over time undo everything Thatcher did. She will be remmebered as a fly in a gigantic EU buffet of wealth spreading, rights bargaing and country bankcrupting. She was smalltime. She was only big at a time when England thougt it was small. I would thrash her at chess, bridge or any other fanciful wager she could ever come up with.

You don't know a thing about the EU, that much is obvious. The EU is still finding things in Britain that should be privatised, as well as continuing their work of bringing the industries and public sectors of the rest of the continent into line with the sort of economy she envisioned way back when. That remains true despite the temporary socialist invented measures of throwing money at countries that have bankrupted themselves with broken economic models etc. If anything, I think you've confused the power of the French and other socialist nutbars to use other people's money to maintain their various vested interests within the EU, with the clear and stated direction of the EU Commission which goes in quite a difference direction. Out of the two of them the Commission is the only one that will prevail if you believe the EU is on a path of further and further integration (which remains to be seen).

To be fair, Ive done that most of the day but a few post work bottles of McEwans Champion has loosened my will. :)

What is so irritating is the "young kids" on here that have no real "feel" for the time or the time that proceeded Thatcher.

The country was utterly fucked and the laughing stock of the world and she turned that totally on its head and made us a force to be taken seriously on the world stage.

Those graphs don't lie and because you can't refute them, you dismiss them. Classic CT.

Thatcher gave in to the miners first time round.

If you could take your blinkers off and simply concentrate on the pre Thatcher years you must surely realise that it was one big fucking piss take by the unions. They didnt give a fuck what was going on in Asia, etc and simply wanted to play billy big bollocks.

They had the country by the balls and thought they could squeeze whenever they liked.

Just like with welfare now, you believe the propaganda of the time. I'm guessing you were 13/14 when the 70s ended. \did you have a keen interest in current affairs then?

Unfortunately my dog is a sheepdog and as such the eyebrow wouldnt work, much to my disgust. Thinking of trading her in for a Labrador just for the craic of being able to have a dog with eyebrows.

Think you're confusing the IMF and the EU fella.

The EU is on the path of creating an over legislated Swiss like nowhereland where you have to sign a form to take a piss. Half the people there are ex-socialists and communists...They dream of a socialist hinterland. Our EU foreign minster who's just packed up on a 400,000 a year pay off was x-cnd. Van Rompoys wife is a communist....there's literally hundreds of them there setting up a quasi-soviet model funded by pretend money. It's a kind of socialist fascism - the recurring dream of our masters... By the time people wake up they'll be living in a Spanish potato farm gulag, exchanging carbon credits for pizza. Her reticence to the EU is why her paymasters kicked her aaahhht! She was just another plaything. ;)

So you did vote for New Tory Labour in 97?

No

I only voted for Kinnock in 93 after a history lecture/bollocking off my Mam.

I might have voted for John Smith but not Blair. He also did something within 3 days of getting into power that ensured my decision - topically inviting a certain bitch to no 10 for tea.

I'd be happy to meet you, in fact I'm pretty sure I've said you should meet up for a pint when you were down in London for one thing or the other.

The thing is, you are incredibly biased about politics, are ignorant of your bias and yet accuse others of that very thing. You may slap a wee smiley face on the end of it, but you are a dyed in the wool tory-boy. Couldn't give a fuck about the people who are vilified by your "Dave" and Gideon. I mean for fucks sake, suggesting that the murder of 6 kids by an abominable human is the fault of the welfare state... seriously?

And today, when a woman who lead policy changes which tore Nottingham, South Wales, Yorkshire and the North East asunder (with no contingencies for the soon to be unemployed) dies, surely you should understand why some people are pleased she's gone/angered by the incredible bias of the media?
