NJS 4411
It's looking obvious they didn't have a clue there'd be this kind of fallout - either very naive, ignorant or arrogant - as well as funny obviously - maybe all four.

It's gotta be a comedy sweaty soup of all four I rekon . They were talking about it earlier on 5Live and how the timing was strange following MON meeting with Short about a summer squad overhaul etc. and Motson was saying how the backroom staff had been told in advance of Saturday to empty their desks . I wasn't listening intently at the time but I think they were suggesting O'Neill was a gonner prior to the ManU game.
Gemmill 46023
Apparently he met with Short after the Norwich game, and gave it the big one about how he was gonna sort the team out and not to worry etc. He then didn't show up at the ground again til Thursday . Short went light and that was the finish of him. Edited April 1, 2013 by Gemmill

Every interview I ever saw of him at his time there he couldn't maintain any kind of eye contact with anything other than the floor. (Maybe he was actually at the ground but was too shy to make himself known ? )

LoveTheBobby 1
Durham Miners Association breaking ties with the club. That's a significant slap in the face, the fans going to tell them to fuck off too? I wasn't actually aware of the miner's lamp in their club history so wanting their flag back doesn't get much more emphatic in their distain . The chap from DMA spoke very well I thought . Seemingly fan groups set up against the appointment that are to become more prominent too .

Monkeys Fist 43064
The DMA taking their banner away is a massive slap in the face to the club, and should be a rallying cry to the fans. It won't be though, they'll still go to the games in their tens.

Howmanheyman 33829
The DMA taking their banner away is a massive slap in the face to the club, and should be a rallying cry to the fans. It won't be though, they'll still go to the games in their tens. Tens of hundreds to be fair. http://durhamminers....m of light.html Dave Hopper the General Secretary of the Durham Miners' Association is writing to Sunderland Football Club to demand the return of the Wearmouth Miners' Banner, which is on permanent display in the Stadium of Light, in protest at the decision to appoint the self-confessed fascist, Paolo Di Canio, as their head coach. Mr Hopper, who worked for 27 years as a miner at Wearmouth Colliery, the site on which the Stadium of Light now stands, described Di Canio's appointment as an outrage and a betrayal of all those who fought and died fighting fascism. He said,"I like many thousands of miners have supported Sunderland from infancy and are passionate about football. But, there are principles which are much more important. "Our banner represents the Durham miners' long struggle for the rights of the working class, rights which were annihilated by fascism in Germany, Italy, Spain and Chile. "We have a sacred obligation to the millions who were wiped out by Hitler, Mussolini and Franco to oppose fascism wherever and in whatever context this evil creed raises its head particularly at a time when working people are again being forced to pay for capitalism's crisis as they were in Europe in the 1920s and 30s. "The appointment of Di Canio is a disgrace and a betrayal of all who fought and died in the fight against fascism. "Everyone must speak out an oppose this outrage and call on Ellis Short and the Sunderland Board to reverse their decision."
