PaddockLad 17643
And they've both been abject failures in the PL. If you're on about Lampard and Gerrard then I'd suggest traditional English football, quite often played with "box to box" midfielders, is becoming pretty irrelelvent at the top level of European football as it has been at international level for decades. We, and the world it seems, love watching them but the game has moved on iyam. 4231 has only become common in the last couple of seasons in this country, but its been common on the continent for over a decade and if you've got two lads sitting in you dont need a Gerrard running around getting knackered trying to be all things to all men. Gemmill 46023
Sissoko is best played as a box to box midfielder oh and guess what I've seen him play there as well so ner ner turn around touch the ground can't say it back no skinchies.

Howmanheyman 33828
I stopped over in Paris one night, got up in the morning to go go down the local shop for a packet of gauloises and some pain aux raisin when I saw this this young lad take a turn a turn in goal on a nearby field. He was superb and it was his best position, he may or may not have been Moussa Sissoko but I definitely saw him with my own eyes.

The Fish 10963
Wiki described him as a box to box defensive midfielder Hes not though, he'll end up trying to do too much on the pitch like Gerrard and Lampard if he's told to do play like that. Guus Hiddink said Lampard was always trying to do too much, and he also praised our performances against his Anzhi side last season. If we're playing 4231 hes not one of the 2, hes one of the 3 iyam. While we've got the current players and Pardew as manager thats how we'll go. Would you suggest that him and Cabaye swap around then? Not for me. So your argument for playing him out of position is that we'll play a position that doesn't work with any box to box midfielder in it? No I wouldn't suggest swap a regista for a box to box player, in the same way I wouldn't swap a defensive midfielder for a winger, so I'm not sure why you'd suggest I would? Sissoko is best played as part of a three, but not forward. He's best used as a driving force beside a defensive midfielder who parks in front of the back four, disrupting their play and laying it off to either Cabaye in the playmaker role or to Sissoko in the Box-to-Box role. I'd play 4-3-2-1 with two wide forwards like Ben Arfa and Gouffran or 4-1-2-1-2 with adventurous fullbacks someone like HBA in the hole and two strikers up front. In the former you play Sissoko as part of the midfield three, the latter you play him by Cabaye ahead of Tiote. What attributes do you feel he possesses that make him a decent option at wide-forward? scoobos 298
He's a defensive midfielder, both him and his international manager said so in an interview in La Monde or whatever its called. He clearly said hes a DFM but will play whatever position is asked of him, to which his international manager added that he didn't feel it benefitted Sissokos development / play style. I concur, and my opinion is more important than anyones so there.

What attributes do you feel he possesses that make him a decent option at wide-forward? its not wide forward as such, because the whole thing should be/is based on good flexible movement. The way Pardew is trying to play the system is quite defensive i.e. catching the opposistion on the break. For me, he's perfect for that but we dont have the players to support his initial breaks. Thats where it breaks down. A fit Ben Arfa would help, as would someone with Jonas's stamina but more offensively minded. Pardew's got to fit the players hes got into a decent system, hes struggling because hes not great and the players are a hotch potch of decent performers who its not certain can play effectively together, certainly given Pardew's limitations. Given all that, I think he plays Sissoko in the correct posistion, he's just not had the right support. Edited June 28, 2013 by PaddockLad

Gejon 2
Was played on the Left of midfield when he was clearly a defensive midfielder. He came at the wrong time unfortunately, if you signed a player like that now and played a 5 man midfield I think he would do well pulling the strings while the others put in more of a shift to make up for his lack of pace/defending. Only signed this summer, was at Braga last season and his contract has just ran out. At 30 it's probably his one last windfall as I guess UAE clubs pay a canny wage. Barney 0
Spot on about the 3man centre mid. Not sure if being here stunted his progress with coaching, being played in a different role or generally not fitting in. I always like a player like that though. Reminded me of Arteta or Pirlo with that foot. I'm surprised the Spanish league didn't suit him better with the slightly slower pace and extra room for his sort to operate. He scored a cracker for Braga from his own half. Worth a look on YouPorn/YouTube.
ewerk 31195
Meanwhile, Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has told the club’s new director of football, Joe Kinnear, he would like to sign Aston Villa's Darren Bent, Norwich’s Anthony Pilkington and West Ham’s James Tomkins. Maybe the recruitment is best left to Kinnear.
Howmanheyman 33828
Still think Obertan and Rob Elliot were Pardew signings. Maybe we should fuck Kinnear off and bring back KK as a DOF as he had a good knack of seeing a potentially good player.
