Just a small point. Scotch is an alcoholic drink, Scottish is someone who comes from Scotland.

:icon_lol: I know, I was hoping that a Scot would take the bait.

They did not.

Why do people go on about us being a 'selling' club. Every EPL club is a 'selling' club. In 7 years Ashley has only sold 3 players for reasonable money. Carroll/Cabaye and Debuchy. Did Spurs fans call Spurs a selling club when they sold Bale, Man. Utd. when they sold Beckham and Ronaldo, Liverpool when they sold Suarez. Football stopped being a sport when Sky moved in and dictated when clubs would play. Why are clubs playing 2 games in 48 hours? Ask Sky. Now it is purely a business run for the benefit of owners, players and Sports broadcast channels.

Christmas Day up until early 60s. Since then Boxing Day then the following Saturday which can be close together, then New Year's Day followed by the FA cup third round on the Saturday after that. It's hectic as fuck and blamed partly for England being shite in summer tournaments. Not sure about that.

Why has operating profit improved that sharply in the last 2 years?

Or have I read that wrong?

ALso, why did our debt balloon so much once Ashley took over... I know he put a lot of money in, but I thought he was just cancelling out debts that were in place elsewhere?

He spent a lot when he a arrived and then got us relegated to incur further losses which here had tho provide loans to cover.

"He was a great guy," said Lovenkrands, 34. "I got on really well with him. He was one of those chairmen who came to socialise with the players.

"We had a really good time with him at Newcastle."

"I had four great years with him at Newcastle and a lot of that was down to the way he was running the club," said the 34-year-old, who played at St James' Park from 2009 to 2012.

"I think he loves football. He's just a down-to-earth guy.

"When the wives would turn up for nights out, he would sit down and have a drink and a joke. You don't get that from many chairmen."

"He and Llambias are both like that," added Lovenkrands. "They have run a big club like Newcastle for a few years now and they have not done a bad job, have they?"

Lovenkrands' most fruitful period of goalscoring in his entire career was after Newcastle were relegated and he was getting games in the absence of Martins, Owen and Viduka.

I've no doubt he was enjoying himself immensely.

I guess if all you see is a genial fat bloke who pays you large amounts of money in the twilight of your career and enjoys a drink, then you'd think he's all right too. Unfortunately we've been on the receiving end of the unpleasant sides of his character in the way hes run the club.

If a club is internally being run to expectations established by the owner then I don't see why staff would not be happy. The fact is it is only us pesky fans who want more.

I think Lovenkrands generally comes over quite well but it shows just how sheltered footballers' lives are. Am not sure if he or many others would be familiar with the phrase "zero hours contract"...

Good points. As long as he's selling Ashley to the Rangers fans then cares?

Mike Ashley reveals intention to take out security over Rangers’ Ibrox home

29 mins ago by Jackie Smithfield

It has been revealed this morning that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley has posted his intent to take out security over Ibrox, the home of Rangers.

The ‘notice of intention’ to take out security has been posted by Mike Ashley under the Sports Direct mantle.

STV have reported that they have seen the relevant documents which show that Ashley/Sports Direct intend to add their name to the title deed of the ground.

The Newcastle United owner has five weeks to complete the application but this is seen as a clear sign that Mike Ashley will provide a further loan to keep Rangers trading, the Glasgow club having already said that they don’t even have enough cash to see out January.

In recent days Rangers turned down a package of around £20m from USA based Robert Sarver, stating it wasn’t a high enough offer.

If Mike Ashley does indeed take up security of Ibrox in return for a loan then it will be something nobody else has managed, as a contingent liability was detailed in the club’s accounts relating to claims by Craig Whyte that he was the legal owner of Ibrox.

Also, by lodging this document, if any other party came forward to provide funding they couldn’t secure the loan against Ibrox, because Mike Ashley’s notice of intention takes precedence.

As Newcastle fans we continue to wonder what Mike Ashley has planned for both Rangers and especially Newcastle United.

The fact he is clearly not giving up his Rangers involvement easily suggests that his hold over the Glasgow club will be ongoing but how will that impact on United?
