Mike Ashley -- Irrelevant Cunt

They have obligatory TV interviews and press conferences but I don't think there's anything that states that the written media have to be allowed access to the press conferences, it's more just convention rather than a league rule. Though it'll be ridiculous if the club does bar the papers from pre and post match press conferences and will severely restrict the NE journalists' ability to do their job.

Can't see the problem at all. Most of the stuff they write about is old news, drivel or what they've read on forums or Twitter.

 that being the case, why the fuck do you post so many of their shitty articles on here?

This has got nowt to do with revenue streams btw. It's all about the fact that there's no one in the written press with a good word to say about the club owner, and plenty of them who will write and have written pointedly critical articles about him.

The revenue stream is just a happy coincidence, this is mostly about "they don't know how nasty we can be."

He has shown that he's happy to outright ban journalists and papers who he feels have been overly critical of him, I don't think he'd feel the need to veil his banning of the rest of the print media. He simply doesn't want to give anything away for free.

The revenue from this is gonna be absolutely minimal. He's making them pay for slagging him off imo. The only journalists he's banned (as far as I'm aware) are the insignificant local papers who, ironically, were the closest thing he had to positive press coverage.

1. It's years since I posted an article. (I'm almost sure).

2. It's only the "extras" they've stopped such as free access at the training ground , exclusives etc.

3. It's not just the sun revenue stream it's about the club doing the interviews and getting people to click through to the main website.

Hypocrisy all those bleating about this after years whinging about revenue.

Somebody please find the last article that this absolute plum posted. You can probably restrict your search to posts made in the last week.

Also, CT, would it be hypocritical of people to complain if the club tripled the price of tickets "because OMG you've been moaning about increasing revenue." It's about maximising natural revenue streams, not inventing new ones that won't make a blind bit of difference to the bottom line.

You flid.

My analogy was going to be about selling children on the black market, but I guess yours works too.

What do you think would generate more revenue CT?

1. Every national and local paper freely writing positive stories about performances, league position, transfers, management, ownership, players & community outreach efforts.

2. selling the rights to positively spin the lies into something the club approves at a single outlet while every other outlet independently lambasts the club.

Have a look at the season ticket/apathy thread before you answer.

Was about to post something similar HF. Typical of the club's short sighted short term approach to revenue. The image and profile of Newcastle United was admittedly on the decline before Ashley bought it, but it has accelerated at pace since. The one positive to this approach has been the somewhat sporadic ability to sniff out the purchase of good players at average player prices.

If the teams doing well we'll have positive stories. If not, we won't.

Had there been a press conference yesterday there would have been a room full of hacks banging on about Ben Arfa followed by a weeks worth of negative stuff.

The hacks still have the usual pre and post match league stuff so can fill there boots there.

The fact that the club wants to sell the sun transfer exclusives isn't a big deal.

Think he's failed to link to that.

Cabella could be complaining about the dinner menu at the training ground. NUFC have just dubbed him saying some empty platitudes they'd like him to have said.

My issue with the media deal is that I want people asked tougher questions, even if those questions are dodged that in itself tells a story. The Sun will do nothing that could cause friction, I know most press conferences are platitudinous but occasionally Bird, Caulkin or whomever will catch Pardew or a player off-guard.

There'll still be idiots buying the Sun to get the quotes, but those journalists on the outside will no doubt see little value in reporting on Newcastle and so will instead did column inches to Sunderland or 'Boro or a club that hasn't isolated them. Thereby surely damaging any growth of Newcastle's global brand?

Do you not think it's more likely that those journalists that aren't getting privaledged access will be more free to criticise the club? Of course it won't be particularly helpful if the national press go too far the other way, but for me the local press has been a lot more representitive of the fans since theyve been on the outside.

Of course I say this as someone who buys no papers local or otherwise.
