Our transfer and management recruitment process is paralysed until we have some clarity on who is going to own the club on the first day of the season. There's no takeover mate. Why would Ashley be searching for a new manager if he knew there was to be new owners. Also a little clue was Mourhino ruling himself out of the managers job, saying like Rafa he wants to win things. That got me thinking he doesnt think there'll be any big money coming into the club anytime soon.

You'd think he wouldn't have broken his neck to keep Benitez if he had a genuine interest in selling? There never was a takeover.
ewerk 30266
Taking a leap of faith and assuming that we have a genuine buyer and a genuine seller. The deal is still not guaranteed and MA was unwilling to give Rafa the sort of contractual assurances he wanted when there was still a chance that this deal could fall through. Rayvin 5176
They left it almost as late as possible to lose Rafa which makes me think the takeover was on their minds. I mean who knows where we go from here but I'm not sure Rafa going and the takeover happening or not are linked really.
trooper 940
I'll play "Devil Advoccat" for a minute who's going to come in for a few weeks train the players get them playing in certain formations etc, knowing new owners are coming in & he could be dispensed with. Also there is absolutely no benefit to the players. I'm calling no takeover/sheikover or even fakeover.

It's not like negotiations with Rafa went to the wire. He's basically made no compromises if reports are anything to go by and pulled the plug with that statement without Benitez even knowing. He didn't want to keep Benitez and the takeover was a smokescreen

If Ashley signs the guy up to a one year contract, they could get paid a few million in compensation for 6 weeks work. And the owners may well give the guy a chance anyway. It's not like the club has blamed the takeover for failing to come to terms with Rafa. If you mean that supporter rage is deferred because we hold some optimism that the end remains in sight, then I'm not entirely certain that will survive beyond the takeover falling through anyway. That being the case it would have been better for them to just do what they've done without the takeover at all - they've now lined themselves up for two bouts of supporter anger rather than just one. And the point I always come back to with these conspiracy theories about Ashley - what makes anyone think he gives a flying fuck about how angry we are? He couldn't give a shit man, no way all these events are just machinations to try to placate supporters. If this shit happens it's because they're woefully incompetent, not because they're implementing some devious strategy.

He's a proven liar, cheat and manipulator and everything he does has an end game. There's no takeover because he's done what he always does and moved the goal posts at the 11th hour and there is no Rafa because he knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

trooper 940
I still stand by Rafa was surplus to requirements after we got promotion. I think Rafa became a "pain in the arse" asking for this & that for the better of the club. Also I dont think he liked how attached to the fans & the city Rafa became. I mean Rafa must have convinced himself they would offer him what he wanted & would be staying. Because he allegedly told the players in the dressing room after the Fulham game "I'll see you in July" Also a telling point for me was after that game Rafa said Ashley went to the dressing room & said thankyou to the players no mention of thanking Rafa. Another part of me thinks this is a massive Fuck You to the fans for having to endure "YFCB Get Out Of Our Club" Ashley will make sure the next manager is unpopular with the fans & a complete yes man early candidates will probably be Alan Fuckin' Pardew or Dennis Shithouse Wise

I've known plenty of rich, self-made men, and all of them have been incompetent, needing to hire specialist managers to take care of and run their businesses for them. Ashley hired Charnley, an overpromoted halfwit. Being a good entrepreneur is not the same as being a good manager. Rayvin 5176
Also think, considering his position at Sports Direct, we probably get about 5% of his attention. I would be amazed if he genuinely gave a shit about anything going on here beyond the headline issues like relegation or big transfers.

Rayvin 5176
Honestly, you can see in the way the club is run that he doesn't care about the small to medium stuff. The fact that Charnley is our MD is one thing. For maybe £1m a year more, he could have someone dynamic who could maximise commercial opportunities and really work to develop a vision and overall club strategy that would pay off in both the short and long term. But he won't do that because he doesn't really care. It's actually a strong testament to how fucking solid this club is as an institution that it has so far more or less survived Ashley's rank incompetence and disinterest. Howay 12496
I genuinely don’t see what pretending he wants to sell brings to him. As Rayvin has said they haven’t blamed the takeover for why there wasn’t a deal reached with Benitez, nor have they blamed it for any lack of signings. The decisions being made, or lack there of, will result in relegation this season. I don’t see why he’d do this in some weird attempt to keep the support quiet, generally the support will be quiet at this time anyway. I’m also not having it that he’s doing this to keep season ticket sales up, they already signed up a while ago and realistically if he’d just outwardly been a cunt, rejected the bid, and got rid of Rafa would there have been much more reaction from the fans than there is now with regard to cancellations? I’m not saying I think the takeover is going to happen, I just don’t see what he’d gain from pretending he was interested in selling.

He’s a massive contradiction, willing to gamble millions on dying high street brands all over the UK but not willing to invest in a manager and players that literally guarantee a massive income every single year without fail. I’ve been reading back a few old interviews of his. I think he’s always been wary of ceding control of the club to others and letting them spend his money. There’s one where he says if he’d invested 10 million into a high street business he’d see benefits immediately but Colllocini cost 10 mill + wages for 5 years. It’s that sort of thing he can’t get his head round iyam.

Sorry but I have to disagree with pretty much everything you've said. Charnley is nothing but a puppet, the fuckwit you put in the storefront so you, the dodgy owner don't have to deal with the customer at the front counter. Ashley makes all the decisions probably down to even the type of tea and toilet paper he allows Penfold to buy. Ashley knows exactly what he wants from the club, he's asset stripping everything from it that he can and what he cannot sell/separate off, St James he's using it as a big billboard for his shitty sports store - that gets beamed around the world every second week for 9 months a year. He knows exactly what he's doing with PR and his "media mates." It's all about spin, I have no doubt he even knew of the "unknown debt" when he bought the club and has since hung it over everyone's head ever since. Fuck he tried almost the exact same thing at Rangers, the only difference was he wasn't ever able to wrestle 100% control of the club away from the fans and board members. He's not interested in growth for NUFC, it's all about status quo and as you would know when things are shaky he chucks what he thinks is just enough money at the club to survive. Rayvin, you may think the rich, self made men you know are incompetent but I'd hazard a guess they're not as incompetent as you think, FFS Donald Trump is president of the biggest capitalist country in the world, again another twat, seemingly brainless but shrewd, cunning, deceitful and conniving. And have you seen who is most likely going to be England's next PM.
