Isegrim 9733
I pity those who still think that not only a takeover will happen but think it is imminent and Rafa will then sign a new contract.

Billy Whitehurst 885
I’ll be astonished if this takeover happens. Even if it does, I wouldn’t be surprised if Ashley retains some kind of hold over us (merchandising rights, advertising, land, or whatever). I think the next manager will indicate what he is thinking. New owners won’t want some appalling manager sitting on a long term contract that they have to pay off. Someone shite on a short term caretaker basis then positive signs that he is trying to sell. Someone shite on a long term basis then we are stuck with him until John Sitton relegates us to the conference.
Kitman 2204
I don’t think Ashley has any real intention of selling.

Sonatine 11307
https://www.football365.com/news/f365-says-rafa-was-mike-ashleys-route-out-of-the-high-street Quote He is so antagonistic and has been so disrespectful of the native culture that, most likely, only a sale could ever change the perception of what Newcastle are. But Benitez presented him with the perfect opportunity to distance himself in an adevantageous way and, from details reported, that wouldn’t have taken very much to achieve. Certainly not hundreds of millions of pounds every window, just the reinvestment of a healthy percentage of the television revenue and the occasional transfer deference to performance over profit. That team wouldn’t have been a contender, but it might have changed the conversation. Which is the real aim, because that’s where the real value in football club ownership is: appearing to do one thing, but actually doing another. But that’s what separates Ashley from those who have been able to convert football’s power into currency. He remains so enslaved to his high street, quick quid mentality that the game’s macro opportunities are lost on him. Benitez was such a chance and, consumed by illusory virtues like control and sell-on fees, Ashley has cut his nose off to spite his face.

ewerk 30266
I imagine there will be more than one coach. The point is that they'll be club appointees rather than linked to the manager. So when Mark Hughes does get the boot it means we don't have to pay out compensation to the whole coaching staff.

Not even sure Ashley is switched on enough to do that. Wasn’t it Pardew, Carver and Stone doing everything when they were here? And then when Pardew left, it was just Laurel and Hardy there giving it their all.
