He owns the club

Definitely a turning point. Made his speech and has backed it up with a decent manager, decent coaches, two quality players and more to come.

Doesn't excuse his past record but nice finally to move forward.

I'm sold. I fully expect us now to challenge the top 4...because we signed two players. Definitely turned a corner, oh yes. No doubt, I tell you.

I'm still just elated that we actually fucking signed anyone. I seriously didn't think it was beyond the realms of possibility that Darlow and Lascelles were the only incoming transfers we'd see this season.

Much as CT is an arse about these things, let's be a little pleased about how things are going surely?

Agree with this. A couple of weeks ago I was starting to have some dire feelings about this season, but I think most agree that these signings are a good step. Granted they're not proven PL players, but I think they are positive moves. If we bring in a couple more, especially a CB, I think there will be good cause for optimism.

It's like when the long abused wife is taken out to dinner by her wife-beating husband. Over the moon at just a little attention and normality.

We're now in the heady days of matching what West Brom spent on Shane Long last summer. Let's not start bowing at the feet of St. Mike of Shirebrook just yet.

Aye that's where I am; The smack head might have said he's clean, but it'll take more than a clean weekend to convince me he's changed.

Wijnaldum, Mitrovic, Mebmba is a good start, but if Austin, a Right winger and a few extra bodies come in, that's a good continuation, if we attack the cups that's better, and so on.

It's only really reasonable to judge this window at the end of this coming season.

You'd have to be a CT-level moron to be getting carried away at this stage.

As is, the squad is still pretty weak. Another 2-3+ first team additions combined with no first team departures of note and I'll start to think the season might not be another struggle.

So you don't think McClaren has any chance of improving last seasons under motivated rabble?.....

no, there's every chance we will do better than being one game from relegation. at the very least i expect the squad to be better coached and organised than when carver was in charge.

but it's still largely the same group of players. the depth of the squad is still weak and we need plenty more competition for first team places if we're going to rise above the also rans in the league.

The league's canny shite away from the top 5 or so. I don't have high expectations or anything but it wouldn't take a massive leap to be the top or thereabouts amongst those also rans. I agree about the depth which relies on a fair bit of luck on the injuries front.

The last two seasons would've been very different if we'd have have turned up for the second half of them. We'd have been at least a dozen points better off both times. That's McClarens first and most important job.

A bit of luck on injuries could have possibly got us between 6 and 10 more points last season. How high you finish in the also rans depends quite a bit on injuries. The season we finished 5th we had barely any major injuries whereas last season Taylor, Cisse, Tiote, SDJ, Aarons, Santon, Haidara and Krul all missed significant periods through injury.

I'm a born optimist. I'd be dead if I wasn't. There's a bet come out and if you get all the places correct, they give you £50m.

If I somehow fluke this, I'll donate £1m of my 50s to people on here. I'll distribute the million to various posters, really good lads could walk away with £25k, total wanks will get a letter saying there's £10,000 on the way, when the truth is they'll get fuck all.

Everyone has questioned me about Stoke, but if they start the season like they ended the last, why not?

I fancy Everton will do better than that Stevie. They had the distraction of Europe last season that they don't have this.

I'm sure Alex will be along to explain how stupid PL is any minute now ;)
