On a similar note, there are a fair few well known players out of contract this summer. I would take Hangeland on a free for sure

I thought he had signed a new contract with Fulham?

Either way I'd expect him to want to stay in London

 Stevie, you can't go from saying what fantastic potential Taarabt has to saying that Benteke's attitude is a disgrace.

Taarabt is a skilful fucker but never going to make it as a top player due to his appalling attitude, loving manager or not.

I know Taraabt has a questionable attitude, but he was never going to be a Neil Warnock player. He's got more in his locker than 995 of players, it's just the simple things he struggles with and that will come with age. He's still only 23. With regards to Benteke I just don't like his style, his first touch is erratic, and I'd like to see him do it again, if he does fair play. I used to hate Brian McClair as a footballer when everyone loved him too, I just don't like lucky shit players with little talent that's just me.

Wasn't Warnock the manager who got the best out of Taraabt in the Champtionship? People have been saying for years that he's only young and he'll develop yet he never seems to have. I agree he's an extremely talented player but I think he's going to be one of those talents who never develop an all round game to match the skill.

I agree about Benteke though.

The thing with football fans these days 80% are stattos and don't actually rate players on how they appear. They see 12 goals in 26 games "ah good player, what a prospect". He's a moderately talented, massively strong centre forward. A bit like John Fashanu. People only look at stats though "ah 10 assists for Levante last season, he's the creative link we've been missing"..."19 goals for Ipswich in 2001 what a striker Marcus Stewart is"....that is how most people judge footballers.

I suppose that happens more now with the amount of foreign players coming over. All you really have to go off is stats for most of them. It's then been taken on for players who are already here too.

Benteke's stats are good but whenever I've seen him he rarely even looks comfortable on the ball.

I agree with that. Players can have a massive impact to a team or squad yet stats wise show up very little when it comes to goals and assists. There are lots of centre forwards for example who goal and direct assist wise have very poor numbers but who are MASSIVE pain in the arses to the opposition and therefore have a big impact.

Who was it that said that of all our players, Shola is the worst to play against because he's so strong and you can't get the ball of him?

Yet despite being a great servant, he is widely and correctly viewed as being an overall failure as a striker for his lacklustre displays and lack of goals.

Stats may not tell the whole story but they canard a way of objectively judging a player's worth. Obviously judging on stats alone is daft.

Agreed. See the "Is Jonas finished" thread.
