I have a new website and aI need to see how quickly things are loading to make sure it's working for everyone.

I tested myself yesterday and it was a little slow loading images but today it's fine so am a bit worried as to if there's a slight issue with the file sizes of the images.

Anyway all I need people to do is click the following 2 links and tell me if everything loads up quickly or if anything seems to be taking too long:

http://www.andyhudsonphotography.co.uk/photography-portfolio/

This one you'll need to scroll down to check all images have loaded

I'm really looking to find out if everything loads up on screen at once, or if some images do but others have a buffering kind of icon.

Cheers!

Your portfolio page is 2mb in size that's why it'll be slow to load for some people on phones/bad connections.

(most pages would be under 1mb in size your portfolio page is 2mbs...put its photos)

basically your displaying a load of images, images are big even smaller sized ones, if you want to cut down the size/loading times you could try not having images further down load until the user scrolls down or rather than have them all in one big grid have them in a slider or whatever .

obviously it's not an issue for people on cable/fibre but for people on slower connections 2mbs even though it's small with broadband everywhere people on pads/mobiles and shit wireless will still feel a bit of the lag

(btw if it was slow for you and then ok, make sure it's not cached, hit F12 in chrome click the network tab then ctrl+F5 for a force refresh and you'll see how it all loads and what has been cached)

Thanks for that mate its a very helpful reply :)

I'll speak to the designers about the not loading till scrolling down as that might be the best option.

I know they've set it up to be cached so I'll do what you said and see if it's slow again

the pages are cached with a plugin that helps them load a bit quicker for the server serving them up but not for the user really

a user getting cached items has to have them loaded properly once, (which is why you thought it was slow then went quick because you'd downloaded the big items before and it's basically done a check seen you ahve them and recalled them from your temp internet files)

there's plenty of options for loading on scroll, and a ton of plugins/jquery ways of doing it

lazy load i think is the name of one of them.

eg http://www.appelsiin...led_fadein.html

edit > holy fuck just checked the other link, it's 6.5mb andy for that page. yeah seriously need to image management on their to stop the entire thing loading in one go, either by lazy loading it or having cut down image thumbnails that will bring up the full image in a dialog or something for the ones people want a better look at.

surprised they did something like that tbh

I requested it tbh mate as it's a great way of showing visitors weddings starting at the beginning and finishing at the end... this guy does it and there doesn't seem to be any issues - http://www.rossharveyweddings.com/weddings/hawaii-wedding-photographer-maui-joy-george

Any ideas how his works so well?
