ajax_andy 0
Not much difference to what it is now tbh. Mind you there are a lot worse bars than the Anson in Wallsend, compared to some it's positively cosmopolitan! Mind you, they had to have a white russian explained but bless them they gave it a try! I remember when my parents came to visit they'd always take me out for some lunch in Wallsend... I couldn't handle the Anson again so we walked the length and bredth of the high street in both directions looking for a different place to eat... not a single pub did food other than the Anson. I demanded me dad drive us somewhere else, so we got in the car and drove about 15 minutes in circles looking for anything other than the bloody Anson. Finally pulled up outside a pub off the coast road somewhere near Battle Hill... walked in and it was the same chain, same menu, same decor, same clientelle. Ended up having to eat in there as me dad was refusing to drive around for ages... proper gutted lol! I remember when 'The Klub' opened... that was quite an improvement, however after a few weeks it was just the same skanky toothless tramps that frequented The Anson occupying the sofa's so I never went again. Can't believe I somehow managed to live in Wallsend (above a pedo) for 4 years!

I assume that was the Jolly Bowman as I can't remember the Rising Sun ever doing food (other than the saltiest chips ever that they bring out at half time for the matches these days). You want to think yourself lucky you didn't get deeper into Battle Hill to the Emperor Hadrian. There's not many bars that you can see people get axed in! Although it's been knocked down for a while now. You clearly should have headed past the Silverlink to the Shiremoor Farm. They do decent bait. Probably the only place around Wallsend that does. I think that's where I was trying to direct my dad too but failed miserably and ended up somewhere else. It wasn't the Rising Sun mind... more towards the Silverlink I think and just off there somewhere... was proper rough like! I don't want to live in Ryton forever but looking back I should be glad to be living somewhere a fair bit nicer than I used too. Funny thing is I used to work at the People's Centre in Wallsend (did some teaching grannies how to use the internet) and the council put up these plans for renevating the whole of the town, pedestrianising it and opening loads of trendy cafe's and shops... they dubbed it 'The New Jesmond' or words to that effect... hillarious or what! I drove through Wallsend a couple of months back and needless to say nothing came of those plans
David Kelly 1260
Aye it must have been the Bowman, it's the only place that does food round there. It's been done up recently and it's not too bad but the clientele are still the main issue. Wallsend town centre is a depressing place like I have to admit. But a couple of years in Jarrow aside, I've lived in Wallsend all my life so I'm used to it and pretty content to stay there. That's not to say I don't appreciate the benefit of getting out as much as possible if I'm looking to go for a night out!

I always fancied going just to see what it was like lol Aye there's worse places than Wallsend in all fairness... I drive all around the North East for my job and there's places I'm actually scared to get out of the car and sit there with the doors locked until dodgy looking types walk away. Benwell and places in the west end spring to mind!

Benwell and places in the west end spring to mind! Oh aye there's definitely much worse. Mind you, you always feel more comfortable in an area you know whether or not it's dodgy. Walker and plenty of the places in the west end are much worse. Although my mams from walker and my dads mam used to live next to Elswick when I was a bairn so I was used to seeing them too I think we were in the Klub on New Years Day a couple of year ago (started off in the Anson!) and it was pretty shitty so we moved onto the relative class of the Powder Monkey. To be honest I think in the four years since I've moved back over here I've been out on the high street about four times and they were just for a laugh more than anything else. I much prefer drinking in the town/Tynemouth/Jesmond and if I'm going for a couple local (which happens a few times a week these days) I would usually go to the Sun or Monkey as they're closer to where I live and not so scummy When we first started going out drinking when I was in my teens we used to mainly hit the high street. It was a lot better back then like (well it had more young uns). I remember being there when Viv Graham was shot on New Years Eve. Used to live across the road from some big time drug dealers who broke in to me house twice and stole everything... Argyle Square I think it was called. Remember the 1st day I went to look at the flat and there were 2 tramps sat on the wall outside drinking cider. Such a lovely place to live! My crowd would drink in Walkergate as young lads as our local but would obviously head over to town most saturdays. Sometimes on a friday or sunday night we'd spend an hour or two either heading up to Shields Road before coming back for last orders or popping down to Wallsend before making the return journey to Walkergate. Wallsend used to be fucking heaving and was very popular but for me I never felt as comfortable there as I did Shields Road out of the two. I swear the Queens Head jukebox would stop when our mob walked in! The pub and bar scene has been decimated these last 10-15 years.

I've only ever been down Shields Road once or twice and I felt much the same as you did with Wallsend (probably worse actually). Even the bars in the town have gone right downhill recently but the local scene's are much worse. We used to regularly have a Friday night round Howdon but they knocked down the Bewick, the Engine burned down and Mauri has hardly been open in the last ten years (and it's like Shameless when it is). Howmanheyman 33916
There was times I thought it would kick off in Shields Road too as it happens and it was also rough as a badgers arse, mind. Still, it was a change I suppose. Even the club I sometimes get into in Walker has just shut down and me and the missus haven't had a 'local' we both could enjoy since the Colliery was pulled down in Walkergate 12 years ago. David Kelly 1260
I've said it before, the worst bar I've ever been in was in Walker. The Westborne Club was a truly frightening place to be in. The fact that some of the people I was with were truly frightening didn't help like!
Howmanheyman 33916
I've only been in there a few times. One of the times I missed was a do where one our group, (who wasn't normally part of our group and was a dick), thought it was a good idea to chuck a pint glass over the balcony a la 'Begbie', (this was before Trainspotting so he never got the idea from that film/book), they had to get out the club and fast and avoid random digs from outraged punters. Another time was where my mates Dads best mate got married to a lass half his age, the bloke in question was a waster and an alcoholic, the lass in question was very overweight and not very confident. The Brides Father was mortal and his speech ended a bit like this...."Well Ken is now the third son-in-law I've got" he scowled before adding, "......And there's nen of them worth a fucking light" which didn't go down well with scuffles breaking out and people being held back from getting stuck into it. Howay 12496
Benwell and places in the west end spring to mind! Salt of the Earth round there man! My Dad's side are all from Benwell, Scotswood road and Elsick, My mam was the posh one of the family as she's from West Denton. One of his work vans was nicked and we found it somewhere in Benwell with half the kids from around there jumping on it The tools and ladders no where to be found obviously. Tooj 17
I had the displeasure of going to Cowgate last week. Wasn't even for a drug deal either. Glad to see the place hasn't improved since the last time I was there.

Tooj 17
Posted this on N-O. Went to the musculoskeletal clinic the other week and they think I have a muscular dysfunction which is why I can barely move my right arm and have lower back pains. He has now put me forward for physio which I had over a year ago and was a waste of time. Then had a medical through work's occ health specialist last week. Who then was kicking off at the awful treatment I have had and he believes I had a spinal injury which is impacting a nerve in my shoulder and a nerve in my lower back. Gemmill 46088
So will anything happen off the back of what the occ health bloke reckons? What's the next steps Jonny? Has somebody logged the actions Jonny?
ajax_andy 0
Posted this on N-O. [/size] I've had 2 different NHS physio's for my back... both utterly shit! I now see a private lass who's £30 an hour but is top class... do you want her details mate as will be 1000% better than anything you'll get on the NHS
catmag 337
If it turns out you need anything surgical - microdiscectomy, nerve decompression etc, give me a shout. We've got some very good surgeons at our place. (Obviously I'm hoping that's a last resort)
