Should I care about what the Catholic church does?

It's a bit like when a football team other than the one you support gets relegated; it doesn't affect you, but to someone, somewhere it's news.

There's got to be more to this. Popes don't resign.

I really don't get how this organisation doesn't just die a death btw. No offence to any of the Catholics on here (I only know of one tbf), but why anyone, knowing what we all now know about the Catholic church these days, would introduce their child to it, is beyond me.

Believe it or not I had a mate by the name of Benedick. He drowned on Boxing day 1998 in surf he and his three other friends (including his long time girlfriend) should not have been in.

I understand your hate; gays aren't accepted (yet) but try and show some respect as others do with your sexuality.

We wait with bated breath for the next ultra right wing geriatric who won't change anything. Meanwhile the Vatican bank will get richer and more people connected to the Vatican will mysteriously turn up dead. And more hideous abuse will come to light despite best efforts to sweep it under the carpet. So much to look forward to.

Hate? Not really. Anyway, I'm sorry for your loss but I'm not sure what it has to do with a silly picture I found on the internet.

No problem about the pic.

But onto deeper matters; You don't hate the Catholic Church, and what it stands for then?

When this news popped up on my screen yesterday lunchtime for some reason I burst out laughing and said something along the lines of, to no one in particular "well there you go, I thought Paul Lambert at Villa was favourite to walk acording to the bookies".....which struck the senior admin girl sat 10 feet away as a distinctly odd thing to say..."What you laughing at?"...she said, "The Pope has resigned, probably for something very bad indeed" I replied; at which point the her two collegues, an Irish girl and another young lady from Poland shot me looks that would kill a battallion of SAS...theyre still not speaking to me.....some people, I dunno...: :blush2:

Nah, hate is a strong word. I'd tend to save it for something that actually affects me.

Of course I might find certain practices (with)in the hierarchy of the Catholic Church dubious, distasteful or even disgusting, same as with anything in life, but that doesn't have to be conflated with "hatred". I suppose you could argue it's a matter of semantics though.

Some countries are blindly loyal to the Pope as a rule. I don't know why people can't distinguish between the Catholic church as a religious movement and the Vatican as a political and financial institution. The Church of England is similar on a smaller scale. Still I have a secular viewpoint so I admit I'm biased.

Is this serious?

I can't tell a joke about Gary Glitter being a glam nonce in case anyone knows someone called Gary that's died?
