ewerk 31195
The Premier League says its clubs will be punished with a points deduction if they breach new spending controls. The 20 teams will not be allowed to make a loss above £105m over the next three seasons, while from 2013-14 they must limit their player wage bills. "If people break the £105m we will look for the top-end ultimate sanction range - a points deduction," said Premier League boss Richard Scudamore. He confirmed a disciplinary commission will deal with any broken rules. "Normally we stay silent on sanctions as the commission has a free range, but clearly if there is a material breach of that rule we will be asking the commission to consider top-end sanctions." Monroe Transfer 0
How many millions does the club spend on player wages?
OTF 7485
So they can lose up to GBP104,999,999 without any sanctions. Pfft.
The Fish 10962
How many clubs currently make that kind of loss, and of those how many have spent their way to a plateau which means they'd no longer need to spend vast sums?
Phil 6
The wage cap seems the more interesting statement. Clubs whose total wage bill is more than £52m will only be allowed to increase their wages by £4m per season for the next three years,
Kid Dynamite 7167
Is that 50mil a year or 150mil a year?
BigWalrus 0
I think it's over the next three seasons. It's also a result excluding disallowed income, meaning if they have a dodgy funding source, UEFA will strip that out of their income and widen the losses. I'm intrigued to find out, firstly, if UEFA have a pair of balls in that wrinkly old sack of theirs and secondly, what creative measures the bankrolled clubs are going to pull out the hat to get round the regulations. sniffer 0
I wonder if they just pull a figure out of the hat, or do thy consult with red rom and the arabs at city and ask them for a figure they are prepared to lose?
Rayvin 5294
QPR must be in some form of danger from this though... Haven't they spent about £60mill this year alone? Not sure what their revenue admittedly.
Tottenham Dave 0
How many clubs currently make that kind of loss, and of those how many have spent their way to a plateau which means they'd no longer need to spend vast sums? I read yesterday that only Man City and Liverpool have done it in recent years. So basically, it'll change very little.
Howmanheyman 33819
Scudamore is the bloke who's on record as saying he thought that a perpetual 'top 4' of Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool was a god thing when those clubs looked like sealing their little glass ceilings over the sub-5th placed clubs. I'm pretty much sure he was for the 39th game as well where the top five couldn't play each other in the extra game because he wanted to spread out the sky's chosen few as Gupta in Delhi or Yung Leez Mag in Singapore wouldn't be interested in anybody else and it also wouldn't be fair on the top five if they played each other and potentially missed out on a trophy/European place yet didn't seem concerned that a team could be relegated by playing a team going for the title in their '39th game'. The man is a wanker.
