Everton release a statement calling bids they received from Manchester United for two players "derisory and insulting".

The Toffees earlier rejected a £28m joint bid from United for Belgium midfielder Marouane Fellaini and England defender Leighton Baines.

Everton's statement reads: "Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players. Those bids were immediately rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting. The club did not make public these details as it was vital Roberto Martinez's preparations for the opening game of the Premier League season were not disrupted in anyway."

Newcastle have no such concerns and have announced the offer as soon as possible in the hope of prompting a bidding war.

I'd expect a bid just south of £20m and for that to be rejected, and then for him to go for an improved offer closer to £25m.

We can afford not to blink on this one.

The pressure from the fans for them to buy is huge, and they've got £180m sat in the bank. Tell them not to make any more offers unless they're going to pay £30m.

Not that it will do us any fucking good whatsoever, Ashley still hasn't spent the £35m [/LM] ;)

This. Every man and their dog know that Arsenal are going to be after some premier league proven players now with such little time to settle into the season. Ashley should have Mr Wenger bent over one of them cannons outside their ground if they want to take Cabaye before the window shuts.

Not that we'll see any of it ( the money, not the cannon action).

Get the impression people think Tiote, Sissoko, Anita & Gosling will do and the money should go on a striker.

 Just no.

I absolutely agree with you, but...
