south_cheshire_toon 0
OK, so there's going to be a new train line built, we know where from and to. I live near to Crewe but the new link won't effect me at all, but the wife's parents house is now going to be just 100 yards from it, and another friends farm is going to be demolished. Question is has anyone every heard of how much difference there is (if any) when a CPO is made on a property etc. Any exp. would be helpful. ewerk 31223
You get what is judged to be the market rate at the time of purchase, regardless of any other factors. It really fucked over this guy in Belfast http://www.bbc.co.uk...reland-20963858 Edit: Apparently it's market value + 10% Edited January 29, 2013 by ewerk
McFaul 35
Why's it not coming to the toon is the question that demands answers.
Brock Manson 0
Is it really even needed? Some pet project of a privatised industry that isn't listening to what its commuters really need - trains that run on fucking time and fares that aren't extortionate. CleeToonFan 1
As much as I like the idea of hs2, Brocks points are more important. Also, I appreciate its good to have cheaper fees for early booking, but how you can get charged 80 pounds more for not knowing you needed to travel till the day you to go is beyond me
PaddockLad 17694
Its going to take 30 mins off journeys to Brum,Manchester and Yorkshire. Big wows. Your highly unlikely to schlep all the way out to Heathrow or Gatwick from central London atm to get a flight to Leeds anyway so what is the actual point? politicians vanity projects keeping huge engineering and building contractors happy?..you dont say?...33 billion
Brock Manson 0
Aye, half an hour ffs! Heaven forbid there be snow or wet leaves on the rails of this link, the delays would make the half hour utterly inconsequential. Should never have been allowed to build it, it's a disgusting waste of money and landscape.
CleeToonFan 1
You'd have thought straight through to Edinburgh would make more sense like.

The plan is to relieve some of the stress on the main lines which are coming close to capacity. Plus there would be massive disruption to existing services during upgrades which would effectively be patching up a very old system. As as for 30 mins, it will effectively half the journey time from Manchester to London.
Renton 22007
It's very much needed, shame half this board will be near retirement before phase 2 is complete; God knows what the geopolitical landscape will be like by then. The Chinese would have had this completed in 3 years. Edited January 29, 2013 by Renton
NJS 4411
I'm a big supporter of public transport but in 30 years time I'd guess the only passengers will be for leisure - I can't see much business use by then as the need to meet face to face will be even less than it is now. Should have been done years ago but not convinced its worth it now.

Spot on - they've just done a 1300km high speed line in 3 years - no CPO's over there though ... get in their way and you'll simply disappear overnight and never be seen again! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/china/8600749/China-to-open-Beijing-Shanghai-high-speed-rail-link.html
