Should also add you're mixing £s and Euros. The Delloite lists are always in Euros.

In £s the highest we ever went pre-Ashley was £96m

In that year, with champions league, we made over £40m from TV...last year, without any european money, it was just over £50m. But turnover remained about that £90m mark.

Ashley has dropped about £15m from our other income on those numbers.

What about from 2008 to now? £15m my arse.

I think NUFC commercial income peaked at £34m, I did look at it and post up some charts I made on here a couple of years ago. Based on the outsourcing of catering etc, I think it was about £15m down on the highest it had ever been. Given the economy is smaller today than it was in 2007 there is no reason to expect it to be higher today really so Ashley's management has lost the club about that.

I think the team last year is on a par with any team under SBR. The league was a 2 horse race the years we finished 3rd and 4th. Finishing 5th with the amount of money that has since poured into Man City, Spurs, Liverpool and Chelsea is as big as an achievement IMO. We still had plenty of shite in and out of the team back then too, Bramble, Acuna, Gavilan, Griffin, Cort, Cordone etc.

Utter pish.

Chelsea were still a very good side, Liverpool won the Champions League ffs, granted they weren't great but to dismiss our team then as inferior to the side we had last season shows you either didn't go to games, or you read the letters page in fourfourtwo and agree with someone elses ridiculous notion.

I've seen it before. We were fast as fuck, we had as much pace as any team in Europe other than Arsenal, and ME personally of the keeper (Given) the midfield and strikers (Bellamy and Shearer) I'd have swapped none of them for anyone we had last season. Ben Arfa looks better than Robert, but does he give as many assists? Does he score as many goals? No where near. We were a great side 2001-2004, a really great side, far better than last seasons 1-0 2-1 merchants and we should've kicked on but didn't.

Even if that's true, and I'd like to see a link if possible, the fact our commercial side (and lets be honest Freddie Fletcher made us the second richest club in Britain for a while with his commercial acumen) is 38% of what it was 10 years ago. Man Utd's for example (without checking) will be 200% without a doubt. The Commercial side of the business should be dealt with by Llambias, but it's been neglected big time. It's an actual scandal when you look at it.

Who said they were inferior like? Krul is a better keeper than Given imo too

As any marketeer will tell you, growing a business income means getting either existing customers to spend more and / or new customers. In the case of Man U both of those have been driving their commercial income with greater income from corporate match day OOT mugs and new income opportunities from US and Far East markets. Their CL presence is a clear driver of this.

I agree that the missing money is scandalous I just don't think it would be enough to transform our prospect. It would push us away from teams like Everton and Villa but the huge incomes at the top of the money league are generated on the back of the fact that 5 or 6 clubs have truly global fan bases.

Of which we were beginning to develop in the late 90s/early00s. I'd be amazed if Tottenham have a truly global fanbase, I'd be amazed if they have more than us. Man City apparently have 22m fans around the world, 21.8m of those won't have heard of them 5 years ago, that's how fickle the market is, a few Champions League appearances and trophies and half of Timbuktu is wearing your shirt. Look at that pic of the Iraqi in a toon shirt on the front line 10 years ago, 5 O'BRIEN on the back of his shirt.

Turnover this year is supposed to be £94m.

TV money grows exponentially as long as you stay in the top flight.

I was daft to estimate it when the cost to the club in commercial/matchday earnings is easy to caluclate by taking TV money away from turnover...

35buqn6.jpg

So "other" income is down £23.5 from when he arrived, it was just over £60m then and just shy of £40m now.

More than the £15m estimated, but half the £50m you suggest.

Is it a bad thing that a chairman looks at the extra money coming into the game from TV deals and passes the savings to fans with cheaper tickets?

My season ticket costs little more than it did in 2006...and I was in the heavens of L7 then, not virtually pirtchside in the Gallowgate.

You got the figures for 2002-2005 which was what my £50m remark was based on.

The matchday food and drink side was not profitable. Rather than do all of that inhouse, we've outsourced it to a catering company. Result - decent sized drop in turnover but no real effect on the bottom line.

Like I've said, it's dangerous looking at turnover as a true measure.

Are you suggesting the pie and chips market at SJP is worth seven figures?

Non-TV income maxed out at the £61.2 in my previous table.

Was your £50m not based on the Delloitte numbers being in pounds when those amounts (turnover of 130m+) are Euros?

That's not what I said - it's just an example of how you can't use turnover alone to compare the two periods. It's a flawed measure. It's easy to generate a big turnover figure but it means bugger all if it gets pissed out the other end in paying out dividends and paying out huge costs that have resulted from poor internal control.

For instance Ashley could take a decision to sell cut price Premiership replica shirts (from all 20 clubs), direct from the NUFC.co.uk website. This could add £30m to the turnover, but it wouldn't mean anything if we weren't covering the costs of buying the stock in the first place.

Pie, chips, pint, conference catering, corporate event hospitality, banqueting etc. It all adds up. The turnover over five years is estimated to be £38 million.

Shay Given is by far the greatest goalkeeper in the clubs history.

Whey aye. You sure it's been 3 or 4 years since you tried class A drugs

That reminds me, time to unfollow you again, your twitter craic is fucking horrific for a grown man

Your twitter crack* and crack on here are horrific for any age group. You bore me rigid. Hate robotic people.

As for Krul being better than Given (during his time at Newcastle), only someone with mental deficiencies or someone with nothing to say desperately striving to be noticed, would come out with such a ludicrous remark.
