Alex 35583
I can understand people voting leave. I can’t understand anyone still arguing it’s a good idea whilst simultaneously not being able to offer up a single positive. And living in France as well On the plus side the new beige as fuck CT means we haven’t had anyone to fill the void left by the Ginger Quim Edited January 4, 2022 by Alex

Gemmill 46030
Hey Edwina Currie nailed pretty much the only positive the other day: "sticking two fingers up to the EU." And even then that's only if you're into that sort of shit.
Alex 35583
I mean most of the people who campaigned for it actually implemented it. You could argue Farage is the massive hole in that argument but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say he only campaigned for it safe in the knowledge he wouldn’t implement it. I dare say he’d rather we were still in the EU, he was still picking up his MEP salary, expenses etc and still being relevant. I also think there’s s fair chance he wouldn’t have done any better than Johnson in terms of a deal. Edited January 4, 2022 by Alex

Would have been a big risk, wasn't ready for it at the stage in life I was at. Would have taken a few more years of prep. Other than that, I don't think I've come off as any more reasonable than anyone else. My main frustration with Brexit has been the 2019 vote. The one before it was forgivable because we had no fucking clue what we were even talking about. I could write a couple of ranting essays if you want but you've all read them before - I pulled back from it mostly to avoid winding people up..!

Gemmill 46030
I mean turning up, announcing that he'd voted Leave from France, and that he'd do it again (from France) given the chance, then blaming Remain and the media for weakening the negotiating position, unable to point to one tangible benefit of his vote, and bearing none of the myriad downsides.... This was your chance, in your own specialist subject, to absolutely roundhouse someone in the face. Opportunity missed. I didn’t like how complicated and far reaching they had become. i liked the free movement of people and hoped that it could remain somehow. However if that was the price to pay it was something I still would sacrifice. i didn’t like how the Union/Euro seemed to be set up to enable Germany to do well at the expense of Greece and other poorer countries. I don’t think any leave voter expected the sheer incompetence of the people who supposedly run the country, nor the weakened bargaining position of having almost half the country and virtually all the media trying to stop it happening. The last few years have been pretty unbearable really. The equivalent of when you hear wanker fans from (say) Portsmouth bleating about how Newcastle fans think they deserve to win stuff. it’s not true, it just gets repeated and non discerning types lap it up. im not saying there aren’t a good many racist knobheads out there who voted for those reasons, just that your average person is smarter than that, on either side. You mean all the treaties we could veto at any time?
Alex 35583
The world government thing seems imminent though. What with the US / the west being on such good terms with each other. You’ve then got to factor in the relationships between them and the Chinese and the Russians being so warm too
Asprilla 96
Any problems that are currently happening in the UK could just as easily be blamed on decades of cheap foreign labour and Covid. If the case to stay had been so compelling I and millions of others would have voted for it. the amazing thing is that all the troubles that have happened since the UK left prove to each side why they were right to vote the way they did. to remainers it shows that the EU was too powerful to leave, and to the leavers it proves that the EU was to powerful to remain. I love France and it existed before the EU. It will remain after the EU is gone. IMO, the EU is just a load of crooks employing a load of middle managers making up nonsense regulations and having great pensions. it is not necessary to be a part of it to be outward looking or open minded. It’s just one particular way of doing that and one I happen to disagree with. if you disagree, cool 👍🏼it wouldn’t affect how I spoke to you or regarded you.

Yeah, the thing is that the EU is powerful and we were part of that power. We're now a medium sized country who voluntarily left the world's most successful trading bloc. And as for the point of them being crooks, have you seen what has been going on in the UK lately? And for time immortal if you want to look back. One thing you have in common with all leavers is that you can't point to one single tangible benefit of leaving. And that's because there isn't one. PaddockLad 17654
I think Brexit was led by some very, very bad actors who manipulated large parts of the UK electorate into voting against their immediate and long term interests. @Asprilla 's talk of one world government isn't completely misplaced but The EU is infinetly preferable to me at least to the sort of organised crime gangster states that Bannon, Putin and Farage want us to inhabit. You seem to have looked at the bad side of the EU which I'd largely agree with you on but didn't look too hard at either the real motives of the campaign or who the leaders' friends are... This argument sounds like a guy who’s trying to justify why some girl should sleep with him. Not wanting to is reason enough. Also, the challenge is deliberately designed to “fail”. Of course right now there is chaos and more than a little ill will. We don’t know what the long term outcome will be. The EU had 40 odd years to implement its system. Not everyone (myself included) liked the direction it was going in. If it was just a trading block nobody would have voted to leave.
